Vent cover installation
I just wanted to attach 2 Maxxair vent covers ( the simple and inexpensive version) to the Fantastic fans of my Lazy Daze. Now I see that the "available space" on the vertical sides of the vent hatch on the roof for drilling the holes for the brackets that hold the covers is very small - less than 1/2", and I need to drill 3/16" holes. Moreover, the the long sides of the brackets (and therefore the covers) would be probably around 1/2" above the roof top which means that the brackets would be "hanging in the air" and there would be a huge gap below the covers.

Is this way of fixing the covers normal and OK, or should I do it in a different way, or should I get completely different covers that can be attached in a better way to the fans?

This is exactly what I did 3 years ago.  They are still firmly attached.

I took the cover of the fan off from the inside, four screws. That gave me more space.

I just did the one in my bathroom. It is an older one. I noticed the shortage of space also unlike the one I did in the hallway just before it.   I took the plate down on the Fantasticfan on the inside and I was able to get the screws and nuts in below. I hope that makes sense.   Just a week prior I had taken that plate down on the inside to troubleshoot, so it was that bad.  The wife was on the inside working the nuts.

Klaus, when we got our LD, our bathroom fan already had the installation you are doing now.
The vent cover does hang over the fan framing.  We have had no problems with it.
As long as you have things sealed for water (e.g. where fan frame meets the LD roof and  where the fan cover meets the fan frame), all should be fine.

How are we to interpret this statement?

Is it an un-intended pun, or is it an Innuendo?

That just means it's a two person job. It doesn't mean Klaus has to get married to complete the install.  ;)

When installing the older Maxxair covers, they should be off the roof a bit for additional ventilation. The larger version:

Amazon.com: Maxx Air 00-933072 MaxxAir II Vent Cover - White: Automotive

works much better, and hinges to the side for easier cleaning.
