Sofa cushions and fabric
Still on the hunt for a replacement sofa for the passenger side rear.

I like the look of the sofa in the photo. Does anyone know what kind of material it is and the color? Or, perhaps there's a magical place on the Web one can find names and photos of LD fabrics? 8)

Has anyone purchased a new replacement sofa from the Mothership? I'm wondering if it would be feasible/reasonable?

Looks like the leatherette interior used in the 50th Anniversary editions.
You can try calling LD but I don't 'think it's a material that they have used for many years, LD does not produce their own cushions, instead buying them from an upholstery shop. Their shop may be able to help you.
You could use a local shop and either recover your old cushion or make a new one.

FWIW, new cushions from the factory have a cost not much different than paying an upholsterer to do it.  I paid an upholsterer for new foam and fabric in the dinette, and new foam for the right side couch in my MB a few years ago.  Total cost, $1500.

That looks like the ultraleather that I bought from LD about 2 years ago when I reupholstered my coach.  Very good quality according to my upholstery.  Was also very expensive, $60/yard.

Are you looking for a new sofa...as in building a new sofa frame?  That might be best done by LD, unless you all are skilled in carpentry.  However, if you're looking for cushions to replace the ones you have already, you can easily work with a professional upholsterer or buy the fabric and foam and make your own.

When we felt it was time to replace the cushions and upholstery in our former MB, I worked with my usual interior decorator to buy the fabric and she located a professional marine upholsterer to supply the right foam and make and upholster the cushions.  (Interestingly, he told me he learned this skilled trade when he was in the Navy.  They trained him.  Who knew?)

We did 2 sofa seats in the lounge and the 2 seats of the dinette.

We picked a one solid-color cloth fabric in a very high grade commercial-grade (think waiting rooms)  which complemented the LD standard fabric.  The fabric was expensive, but 56" wide, as opposed to the usual width of fabric found at, say, a Joanne's.  This will help with the amount of yardage required, thus the cost of the fabric.   I recommend you look at the fabric swatches, in whatever fabric--cloth or leather--, both in the natural sunlight and inside the LD...we thought we'd go with a brown and ended up with a deep merlot.  That's how natural sunlight can change one's opinion of the "right" fabric choice.

To find a upholsterer beyond the usual upholstery shop, search for someone who does boat cushions or someone who does car upholstery for auto restorers.  I suspect those tradespeople would be very skilled in working with leather or high-grade leather-like fabrics.

As much as you can afford to, go with the best commercial grade fabric and foam that you can find.  The cloth fabric at that level will not pill, is stain resistant and tear resistant (claws and paws).  Higher grade leather/leather-like is resistant to tears and splits.

The advice from Tina to find a marine upholsterer is right on the money. The fellow that I used here in Tucson does a lot of boats, and vintage cars. Nothing seemed to be beyond his ability to handle.  We had him replace the foam in the couch/bed in the front room and it is very comfortable albeit stiff.    He doesnt do carpeting in RV's,  which was ok since I used sheet flooring in the rest of the coach, but he had some marine grade carpet that we used in the cab.  It is very durable, totally waterproof, and looks great.  If I were going to put carpet in the coach, I would use that carpeting.   I was going to take out all of the valances in the coach, but he convinced me not to do so.  He reupholstered those in both the ultraleather and couch material and they look great.

Lots of wonderful ideas and suggestions! Thank you ALL so much! :)

I'm going to explore under the mattress to see if there's anything to learn there. I'll probably be back with more questions.

Thanks again  :)
