TV Sound Enhancement - - Jensen Television
In our 2019 Rear Bath with Entertainment Center - there is a 32” Jensen television.  What equipment enhancements have folks done to make the sound better?  I know it is going to be difficult to hear the television with the air-con or heat running...but it seems for us that we have to have the volume set so loud to enjoy television.  We do like a little television in the evening after a day of outside activity.

I know my hearing sense is going a little...but would be grateful for any technical or practical suggestions for the television!

A while back, Ed Liebgott came up with a good idea.  We both have MB's.  I was using a sound bar in the back to direct sound to the dinette area, but it was still pretty lame.  Ed suggested connecting a headphone wire between the TV and the Aux input on the dash radio.

It works for me, and I am rather hard of hearing.

Ken, so that allows you to play sound through the LD coach speakers.  Must be a pretty long cable though.

I like Ken's idea: simple, inexpensive, and takes advantage of a much better sound system than the TV's. You just need a long enough cord with 3.5mm stereo plugs on both ends. For example, this cable is available in six lengths, from three feet to fifty feet.

I ran the cord, tucking it in to minimize visibility.  I measured all my placements and ordered a 30' cord.  I had 1' left when done.

My solution is more elaborate, but compact and results in excellent sound. I use a very good Bose powered computer speaker set with the speakers ideally placed for good imaging when watching the tv. They are powered from 12V. For the audio input, I was not happy with the tv headphone jack, but it does have an optical output, so I purchased a tiny optical-to-analog converter to interface - powered off a USB port. Although I had previously upgraded the dash stereo and all the speakers, I also find this setup more pleasant for casual music listening while camped, plugging my phone directly into the speakers.

Steve, that was where I started.  In my MB, I picked the barrel chair option, and replaced the barrel chairs with a recliner, so I have one couch.  My Mac is in the  back left corner, with computer speakers in front of the rear left window, pointing to the right.  Sitting on the couch, I had great sound.  But, sitting in the dinette, much of the sound was gone.  So, I tried using a Bose 30" or 32" sound bar over the rear window, pointed toward the dinette.  I had good sound in the dinette, but (my bed is the couch) in bed, I lost all the high tones.  I was below, not in front of the sound bar, and it was quite directional.  I had resigned myselt to that being as good as it would get, until Ed made his suggestion.  In the dinette, I have the front speakers.  In bed, I have the rear speakers.  Ed's idea was the best one for me.

So I see the Aux. jack on the radio but where on the Jensen TV do you plug into?

The jack on the front of the radio is probably for headphones. I suspect the 'aux-in' is behind the little flip door next to it. For the TV, if you have a headphone jack, you could use that. Or better, if you have RCA jacks for 'audio out', then get an adapter - RCA plugs to mini stereo phone jack.

On my equipment, the back of the TV has a socket for a 3.5mm headphone jack.  It is 3 poles, providing stereo.  On my radio, low on the right is a 3.5mm socket for Aux.  My cable connects the two.

When the cable is plugged into the headphone jack, the TV speakers are disconnected.  When the other end is connected to the radio, and the radio is set to Aux, I can control left-right balance and volume using the TV remote.  I can control left-right, front-back, volume and tone adjustments using the radio controls.

Greg, looking at your pics, it looks like you do not have a TV headphone jack.  You can follow Steve's suggestion, using the red and white RCA phono sockets with an adapter - RCA to 3.5mm coax.  On your radio, checking the manual, the small round socket in the lower right corner is your Aux input.

Steve, looks like the jack behind the little flip door is some sort of USB.  So Ron, you’re saying that aux jack could not be used for doing what Ken was suggesting?  Sorry, an audiophile I am not!
