Color of cabinet doors

I want to replace the knobs in my 2001 Lazy Daze and get rid of the old-fashioned metal plates that are under them. These plates are held in their horizontal position by a little stud which created a small hole in the wood.

I'd like to fill these holes and think that this wood putty should do the job quite well: Amazon.com: Minwax 13615000 Wood Putty.

However, I'm not sure about the color. Cherry, or Colonial Maple, or Early American, or Golden Oak? Given the small holes it might not matter much, but I'm nevertheless hoping that someone here has a good tip what could be the best match.

The thing I did not like about the MinWax product is that it does not harden. You cannot stain or paint it.

On the other hand, DAP has a similar product (link below) that I have used. It does harden and a finish can be applied over it.
But, that said, the DAP Plastic Wood comes in different colors and looking at your photo I would consider Golden Oak.   ;)

Thanks, Steve,

I'll get the DAP product from the local Ace Hardware store. I'm not sure that I will put a finish over these small holes, but I agree that non-hardening wax is probably not the best solution here and might also attract dust and look like a dirty spot after a while.

Hi Klaus.  Yes I have a '99,  and I did extensive repairs (removing improvements poorly done) on a 2001MB that I bought for friends.  Both have the same interior 'wood' pattern that you have. That is actually a thin layer of printed vinyl, to look like wood. Golden Oak is a good color selection. My best patch results were with plain generic, Elmers wood putty, water based.
8 Oz Elmer's E848D12 Natural Carpenter's Filler Solvent-Free Interior Wood...       Then I used acrylic paints, mixed to match the 'wood' streaks.  I have a complete 24 tube kit, overkill for this though. They were Artist's Loft, .7 oz. tubes. * You only need three of them.  1) brown umber, 2) white, and 3) kind of a mustard yellow. A small brush, and a small paper plate as a pallette.   It leaves a glossy finish and is almost undetectable, (except by you).  I did sometimes put a clear coat layer over it, a clear acrylic, to protect it from cleaning solvents and wear. Don't get it too lumpy.  *I tried to find this kit but it seems people are taking up painting, and it was sold out everywhere I looked....
You can get nickel finish knobs from Liberty, or Franklin with white plastic inserts, 1-1/4-Inch Ceramic Insert Cabinet Hardware Knob, Packaging May Vary -...    with or without  back plates similar to the brass that came with your year rig. You said you didn't want the back plate, but its function is to prevent damage from fingernails. Cosmas B-112SN Satin Nickel Cabinet Knob Backplate - DoorCorner  If you keep the plates, you wouldn't need to patch those holes.  I stayed with the brass because there were so many other brass accents, and brass hardware.
And drawer handles to match. Well, these are chrome. I'm sure satin nickel ones exist. Amerock 263WCH Allison Cabinet Pull, 1-1/4 in Projection, 5 in L X 3/4 in W,...      RonB
