Water Pump Bypass Switch January 07, 2021, 11:00:06 am Just a quick question fellow LD folks...Just finished our 1st 4 day trip in our 06 RK 26.5'.We camped with full hook ups, but filled the fresh water tank thinking that we might boondocks 1 night.At some point, we used the water pump to empty out the fresh water tank, to lighten the load. The water pump seemed to work fine, but then the tank filled up again from the hook ups, and the water started back spraying at the hose entry.I called the mothership and they thought I would need a new waterpump because the backflow switch/valve, was not functioning.Anyone had this happen? Any ideas?

It connects directly to your plumbing system and has it's own built in check valve. It's probably the fault of that check valve and not the water pump. 1 Likes

How did the tank fill from the hook ups? You have to manually fill the water tank. And "at the hose" entry - do you mean the water tank fill inlet and the water tank filled up and gushed out because it was overfilled?Chris

It is all that separates the water tank (inlet to the pump) from the high shore side hook up water pressure. So JSP, did you have a water pressure regulator between your coach and the water hookup? The water was coming out of the vent port next to the 1 1/2" fill port? RonB 1 Likes

"Hi JSP,I believe your freshwater tank has a drain valve that can be used to empty the tank in lieu of engaging the water pump to do this. It is probably quicker and less wear and tear on your water pump. This drain valve should be accessible and in close proximity to the freshwater tank. Your LD manual should identify the location for your particular model. Others more knowledgeable will correct me if this information is not accurate.Matt 5 Likes

So the pump would have to be on, and water in the tank, and then if the inlet check valve lost it's o-ring and the hose wasn't attached, then the pump could force water out of the inlet until the tank was dry. A clarification of the symptoms would let us nail down the problem. The first step in fixing anything. RonB 2 Likes

Note that you DO need to find the drain and valve for the water tank as the method to properly drain it. The valve will be in an outside compartment, under the tank and below floor level, and the outlet directly under the coach there.Steve

A "lever" might not be recognized as the "valve" to open the tank drain, so just offering this information.YMMV.

The quick disconnect fitting and second valve (blue handle) are used to fill the tank from the bottom, it’s a lot dryer and faster. And what is the other quick disconnect with the red handle in the back of the compartment?When we ordered our LD, we though an outside shower would be good for beach camping, primarily for washing sand off our feet and legs.The Factory location for a shower on our floor plan placed the shower on the driver’s side, not very practical.Instead, a valve, hose and nozzle were installed next to the entry door, no need to track dirt inside after washing them.The handle with the red valve is a shut-off, in case the quick disconnect leaksLarry 2 Likes
Re: Water Pump Bypass Switch Reply #15 – January 08, 2021, 11:12:08 pm Yeah, my MB has the factory shower. It was leaking and removed by the prior owner so is on my repair to do list. I thought it was odd being on the driver side but I guess that was the easiest place for the factory to put it since most of the water stuff is on that side of the coach.
