Compare TK24 with 26.5 mid bath
Hi,

My wife and I will be full timing long term (several years). We are trying to weigh the advantages and challenges of both models. Many of you are very experienced as RVers and specifically LD. Any thoughts that you can offer will be highly appreciated.

Jack
Hi, my Thai wife and will return to the USA and purchase a MB and travel for a year or so. I full timed for 3 years about 20 years ago.  We are looking forward to this upcoming adventure.

The MB gives you two living areas, a bigger bath, and the storage tanks are bigger. You can also get in MOST places you could with a TK. I think the TK would be tough for a couple full-timing, but adequate for a single.

I agree with Steve.  We would have found a TK to be pretty cramped for full timing.  We traveled extensively in our 2002 MB, on trips ranging up to 6 months.  It would help tremendously if you are both small and agile enough to sleep in the over cab bed (we aren't).  We decided to go up to a diesel pusher when we went full time for the permanent bed, residential fridge, cargo capacity, towing capacity and interior space when staying indoors during poor weather.  We sometimes miss the ability to get into some of the smaller spots typical of older government campgrounds.  And overall demand for RV spots has gone up, with reservations more often desired or needed.  I feel that the smaller the rig, the better two people have to get along in a tight space and fewer hobbies and activities that will clutter that space.

The OP's question is more difficult to respond to than one might think because very little 'qualifying' information was provided other than a notation of some past fulltiming experience (as a single?) and the intention to fulltime 'long term'. So, based only on a superficial comparison of the two models, if I were fulltiming with another person, I'd go with the MB.

Steve's points are well taken; I've had a TK for well over 16 years, and while my 2003 with its smaller holding tanks could work OK for fulltiming for me (and dog) and my life and travel style, it can get tight when a second person needs to be accommodated. New(er) TKs do have larger holding tanks than my old rig, but the configurations and storage capacities of older and newer TKs are pretty much the same.

That said, if the OP plans to look for a used rig, I'd suggest beginning the search now or at least very soon; finding either a TK or an MB of the age and initial condition suitable for long-term use will not be easy. If the plan is to order a new LD, I suggest deciding on the model, getting on the list, and preparing to wait for 18 months or so.

YMMV, which is usually the case!

For full timing, you will be much happier in the Mid-Bath, it has the room needed for storing clothes and the other items used in daily living.
All of the short LDs have limited storage. We own a 23.5' FL and have traveled for extended periods, but we could not the carry the clothes and winter gear we would need for year-round living and still have room to move around freely inside.

T/Ks older than 2015, have small holding tanks and a small propane tank, not what you want or need for full timing

If you have not spent time in either floor plan, a good suggestion is too find an event where many LDs will be gathering and see for yourself. There really is no other way to know how any floor plan will feel in person.

The MB also has a larger roof, which mean more space if you desire a high capacity solar setup.  Not everyone does, but those who do are usually full-timers.

The biggest thing for us in the MB is having 3 private spaces (back room / kitchen area / over cab).  Someone sleeping over the cab can wake up, eat breakfast, and be out the door at o'dark thirty with minimal disturbance to someone sleeping in the back.

The shorter length can lighter weight of a TK might be an advantage for street parking or if you desire to tow something heavier like a cargo trailer or boat.

The MB is the most popular model for good reason.
