2005 F450 Rear Axle
I plan to change the rear end axle lube, but not sure about the the axle code? My chassis code indicates axle code 83. When I researched the code it indicates an Dana,E350, 4:30 ratio with non limited slip. Does any one know why the code is for an E350 chassis instead of a E450?

Your 2005 should have a Dana D70-HD.
It can be identified by viewing the differential cover, looking at its shape and how many bolts are used to secure the cover.

This is what a D70-HD cover looks like.

Thank you Larry for the Dana web site. I used my Big Foot levelers in manual mood and was able to lift the rear end enough to Access the rear differential cover.
Because of all the “stuff” I wasn’t able get the best picture of the entire cover. But the partial photo I did get(compared to the Dana Diff Covers) might match the  Dana 80,’98 & newer Ford only-35 Soup line. I’m attaching a couple of photos with this reply.
Thank again,

I can't see enough of the cover to make a determination, the only way to be sure is to find the specification plate.

Unless you plan on working on it internally, all you need to know is that for both axles, a 80W-90 premium rear axle lubricant is specified.
For rigs that tow, a synthetic 75-140wt fluid may be preferable.

Thanks Larry.  The type of lube is really what I needed to know. On some of the previous trucks I’ve owned, an additive was needed to accompany the lube oil with a limited slip rear end.
