Any weight limits on cabover sleeping area?
Hi

Considering the cab over area as a main sleeping compartment. Is there any weight limit or issues with a couple using this regularly?

What floor plan do you have? Mid-Bath, Rear Bath???

Chris - mid bath as 26.5 (1992 26.5). 
I stand corrected, (post below)  I forget there are other 26.5 than the mid bath (partly cause mid bath is so popular and most of what is out there, and partly cause I had blinders on for a while focusing on mid baths).

I don't recall ever reading or hearing about any weight limit in the cabover bed. However, I suspect you could apply the old speed limit in Montana to weight in the cabover - "reasonable and prudent".

My wife and I have been sleeping in our two LD’ s bunk for 25 years.
That’s what it was designed for.

Ed posted this response to the same question a few years ago...” The Factory suggested a range of 400 to 500 lbs when I recently called. One of our astute members suggested that since the flooring in the cabover is 1/2" plywood, to keep the total weight at the 400 lbs mark. Hope this helps.

Caveat here! From time to time this forum has seen inquiries concerning the conversion of the entertainment area (30/31' models only)  into a sleeping platform! The Mother Ship strictly frowns on such a modification. It seems that in the 30/31' models the over cab area is built to different specifications and will not support the weight of passengers.   ::)

I have never seen that issue expressed on any of the other floor plans.   ;)

In addition to any weight limitations (and I agree that about 400 pounds would be the maximum), in and out access to the overcab bed should be a consideration. The method and ease of climbing into and out of the overcab varies among models, e.g. the bunk ladder, stepping on the back of the dinette, etc. If one or both of the occupants need to make night bathroom trips, particularly multiples, the 'inside' sleeper has to crawl over the 'outside' sleeper to get down and back up. Additionally, unless one leaves an inside 'night light' on, the ups and downs could be risky.

Many couples sleep in the overcab in comfort and without issues, but I suggest that before locking into this plan, both actually climb up into the overcab via whichever mode the rig model requires, lie down, and do a couple of 'dry runs' (no pun intended) with the inside sleeper crawling over the outside person. Using the rear couch(es) as beds may take on a new appeal.

About 300-lb together. The bunks are very strong as long as there is none if the rot common in many older LDs overheads.
