Broken Utopia Shower Faucet
All -

The hot volume knob on our Utopia shower faucet snapped loose internally and is stuck open.  Not good.

I removed the handle on the hot side, but I can see that I am going to have to remove the entire faucet unit in order to fix it or simply replace it (a replacement is only about $24 online).

Has this happened to anyone else out there?  I thought I should check and see if anyone might have any tips on removal/replacement, so that I can avoid destroying something...

While that’s not happened to us, access to the shower faucet is easy on a midbath.  Just remove the small square panel on the wall below the TV.  The faucet is installed just like most that I’ve had to change.  The faucet is held to the shower wall by two (2) plastic nuts.

There might be some adhesive holding the faucet in the shower that will require a heat gun to remove.  But that’s just a guess.  Hope this helps.

Hi Tim; I hope you managed to fix your broken faucet. How did that work out?  RonB

Hi,

Thanks, Ed & Margee, for the information; and Ron, thanks for asking - here's the answer:

I did exactly as you suggested:  1) took off the little access cover just above the front end of the driver's side sofa (we have a MB), 2) Removed the hot and cold lines from the back of the faucet, 3) removed the plastic nuts that secure the faucet to the back of the shower stall, 4) used a heat gun to soften the caulk in and around the two holes, 5) removed the old faucet and cleaned off all off the old softened caulk, 6) applied new caulk to the back side of the new backer plate around the openings, 7) slid the backer plate onto the back of the new faucet and pushed the new faucet (with backer plate) it into place, 8) threaded on the new plastic nuts back behind the shower stall, tightened (pretty much just finger tight), 9) reinstalled the cold and hot hoses to the new faucet, 10) turned on the pump and tested for leaks.  No leaks - good to go.

See photos below: 1) back of new faucet, 2) caulk applied - ready to install, 3) installed, 4) connection behind shower
