LDOF Amazon Link January 08, 2020, 07:30:54 pm I am currently in a discussion with a LDOF member in regards to the Amazon Support link provided. I mentioned the following in regards to providing forum support through Amazon purchases: “ Once you close your Amazon page the link between Amazon and LDOF is terminated. Opening your Amazon page after that will no longer result in an automatic donation to the forum if a new purchase is made at that point.“Is this an accurate statement?Kent
Re: LDOF Amazon Link Reply #1 – January 08, 2020, 07:47:29 pm Interesting question. I copied the URL I use into a file and compared it with the URL currently liked to the LDOF website. The LinkIDs differ.I repeatedly opened and closed the browser and copied the URL each time. The URL, including the LinkID was the same each time, so it does not get a new one each time. I wonder if the older one that I use is properly allocating contributions. Is there a way to see what is being contributed? The computer is not necessarily your friend.JoelUpdate: I did a search on Amazon Affiliate program and found this:How long does the Amazon affiliate cookie last? When your site visitors click an Amazon affiliate link, a cookie (a small piece of tracking data) is added to their browser and remains active for 24 hours. You’ll earn affiliate fees on any qualifying items your visitor adds to their shopping cart during that time: the curry powder, the Instant Pot, and the KitchenAid mixer. (Let’s dream big, bloggers!)The 24-hour window immediately closes when the customer submits her order or when she re-enters Amazon through another Associate’s link.If the customer adds a qualifying item to her Shopping Cart but doesn’t place an order, you can still earn a referral fee if the customer completes the order before her Shopping Cart expires, around 90 days.It sounds like the cookie is time limited. Maybe all the 'contributions' I have been making haven't gone anywhere. Hmmm
Re: LDOF Amazon Link Reply #2 – January 08, 2020, 11:13:35 pm To ensure credit is given for LDOG use, either enter Amazon via the link on the LDOG home page or paste the LDOG Amazon link in your favorites bar on your browser homepage. I have done that and just compared the link on my homepage favorites bar to the one on the LDOG homepage and they are the same.If others have tips to simplify this process, please chime in.Chris

Re: LDOF Amazon Link Reply #6 – January 09, 2020, 11:25:13 am I like it. The only issue might be what to do with the excess funds.... but, I'm sure some useful way to deal with them could be worked out. Maybe suggest a certain "not to exceed" limit on contributions . Frank 1 Likes

FrankExcess funds? I have big pockets, Frank. Just kidding, of course. 😉 Right now it appears we are sufficiently funded. Should that change, then we mods will approach members with some recommendations.Chris 1 Likes
