Re: New Chassis Battery Reply #25 – August 23, 2019, 06:13:19 pm Ron, Thanks. I’ve never had any problems with the charging system or other electronic issues that I am aware of. Perhaps the sudden realisation of the need to maintain the water level in the chassis battery will address the issue. Other than the draining of the battery over periods of non-use or abuse, I have experienced no other issues. Here’s a riddle. “How does a person feel dumb and smart at the same moment?” “When they realize their mistake”. Can’t get any plainer than that. Of course I’ve be wrong before. 🤓Kent
Re: New Chassis Battery Reply #26 – August 23, 2019, 07:27:27 pm Kent, I had had a short-lived OEM battery as well. Before leaving NorCal, I dutifully checked the battery fluid levels. When I had the oil changed in Texas, I had to replace the battery as well. It seems that the cell caps were missing.... Some days, the only exercise I seem to get are dope slaps.Joel 1 Likes
Re: New Chassis Battery Reply #27 – August 23, 2019, 07:48:04 pm Kent, no need to fall on your sword; your “oops” event revelation very likely spurred some readers to open the hood and check their engine batteries! Everyone jams up from time to time; good on ya for sharing a lesson in awareness! 😉 1 Likes
Re: New Chassis Battery Reply #28 – August 23, 2019, 09:00:45 pm Starting batteries are, in my estimation, almost as important as good tires or insurance or Emergency Road Service. Therefore I never purchase off brand batteries for chassis or coach, considering them a Band-Aid at best. That is why I recently installed, as one of a long line of the same brand, an Interstate AGM MTZ65. Expensive, yes, dependable, you betcha!
Re: New Chassis Battery Reply #29 – August 23, 2019, 09:10:57 pm Thanks everyone, At 66, I’ve still got a few good lessons to learn up my sleeve. Stick around for my next installment. Definitely won’t be a Bison selfie. I can learn from others mistakes too ya know. 😏Kent 1 Likes
Re: New Chassis Battery Reply #30 – August 23, 2019, 09:22:55 pm Steve,I considered a good AGM for the chassis battery but I also reflected on my recent history of draining the OEM batt and choose a more cost effective direction for the time being. With the upcoming two week journey to Yellowstone the rental car et al, it just made good financial sense. Still have my Antigravity jump starter just in case I loose my head again. 🤯Kent
Re: New Chassis Battery Reply #31 – August 24, 2019, 09:29:46 am Kent, hoping the new battery resolves the issue and you have an excellent trip to Yellerstone!
Re: New Chassis Battery Reply #32 – August 24, 2019, 10:04:07 am Greg,Thanks. I feel much better knowing we’ll get a “good start”...every time.My daughter is very excited about seeing Yellowstone for the first time. I, too, look forward to the chance to use some new camera gear and see the park in a whole new light. Eyes wide open.Kent 3 Likes
Re: New Chassis Battery Reply #33 – August 25, 2019, 02:31:24 am If I read between the lines of what I read on the forum LD used to install battery chargers that were not smart (e.g. if the LD was plugged into shore power the battery was charged, even if it was already fully charged - which would damage the batteries). When AGM batteries were put in the LDS there were problems with them (not lasting I if I remember right). So not long after that, did they switch to putting smart chargers into the LDs?Does anyone know what year they switched to smart chargers, where it would not hurt the batteries to be plugged in all the time to shore power with the charger working (the breaker is turned on)?Jane
Re: New Chassis Battery Reply #34 – August 25, 2019, 02:13:43 pm All done. 🤓I received the ODII “Memory Saver” and installed it per the manufactures recommendations. The chassis electronics (key off/out) must be off and inactive for at least 25 minutes before the device can be connected to the ODII Port. I used my 12 volt extension cord to the coach 12 volt power to supply power to the device. It is cautioned to prevent the chassis’s POSITIVE battery cable from contacting the chassis so I used a length of cord to suspend it from the hoods latching loop. I also strung up the NEGATIVE cable to the passenger outside mirror to get it out of the way.All batts have a hold down bolt that needs to be removed. Our e450 battery has a cloth boot around it that can be removed after the batt and reinstalled with the battery. Our New Interstate Batt did not have its date code dots removed so I did that myself. Just a heads up in case you go to Costco for your new battery. All pretty mundane stuff but there you have it. I’d say the biggest plus was using the Memory Saver. Thanks Greg. And the fact that the Interstate was about $100 less than any Die Hard I’ve ever purchased. As a side note, apparently our Bluesky 3000i does maintain the chassis battery while plugged into shore power according to the LD manual and the monitor panel. Interestingly, though the panel shows the “Float” and “Aux” LEDs during daylight these lights are not illuminated at night. Likely due to a lack of sunlight to initiate a “Solar Power Charging” state. Does that make sense? Here are some pics of the operation in case you’re interested. All charged up and ready to go. I'm sure you already do, but make sure you keep your Costco receipt in case you need to return the battery within the 48 month warranty time. If you left the date code dot on (I talking about the single colored dot that has month/year printed on it) then you don't need your receipt.BTW - I like the idea of using the ODII Memory Saver. I've never heard of one before.- John

Re: New Chassis Battery Reply #37 – August 25, 2019, 04:02:13 pm Robin is 37. We’ve all be traveling together since she was about 7 when we had our 27’ Prowler TT.She has seen more CG activity than I ever did as a kid. We've hiked to the top of Nevada Falls, witnessed the eclipse in Big Bear and and everything in between. Prior to the LD we stayed in Curry Village (glad it’s back) every year for a decade while my DW had to work. Robin is always a great companion. I’m happy to take her to Yellowstone.I’m trying to convince her to use my extra Nikon during this trip so she can shoot a travel log. We’ll see how well things go. John, I wondered about those date codes. Oh well, the receipt will be in the rig in any case.ThanksKent 2 Likes
Re: New Chassis Battery Reply #38 – August 25, 2019, 05:42:17 pm Kent, I remember when they first came out with maintenance free batteries, they really could be maintained (e.g. water added) and where we bought it said to watch it. Ours in our vehicles are sealed - can't add water. We will double check our coach batteries.Jane
Re: New Chassis Battery Reply #39 – August 26, 2019, 01:21:42 am Kent - our Costco batteries never had a. Date code scratched off. It has a smal round sticker (size of a quarter) that has Month and year. The is the one that I think John is referring to. I called the other day and they could look up (using my card) to find the battery to let me know it would be free to swap out.Sent from Yahoo Mail for iPhone

Re: New Chassis Battery Reply #41 – September 03, 2019, 08:57:31 pm Just put in a new Interstate battery from Costco. $99.99 with the return of your old battery. I broke off the bolt that is connected to the battery hold down (the wedge shaped plastic) and the bottom part of the bolt snapped off in the hole when the bolt screws into...not sure what to do about it to get the old bolt end out of the battery holder base.
