Re: Ford V-10 Engine Oil Level
Was going to post a new thread about this but figured I would bump this one.

[Actually - the archive should remain the archive.  New posts should go in the main part of the board, so I've split this here - Michelle]

I have a 2008 v10 like most of the rest of us. My chassis (larger headlights and front grille) is the "lastest" revision until Ford release the new one next year. I'm going to do my first oil change on it and am wondering if 6 quarts or 7 quarts is the correct capacity? I'll be using Mobil 1 syn but want to make sure I don't overfill! Any other DIY oil change members on here?

Your V10 engine takes 6-qts of oil and always replace the filter at the same time. Use a high quality filter like NAPA Gold or WIX. Fram filters are cheaply made and are marginal quality at best. There are several YouTube videos comparing oil filters on the subject. If your mileage is over 100K miles consider using Mobile 1 high mileage oil.

Six qts. is the correct amount. But, a word of advice - check the oil level with the engine cold before draining. Your vintage of Ford V10s had a possible issue with excessive oil consumption. This will let you know if it applies to yours, and whether to carry extra oil on board in case.

Awesome thank you both. I plan on using a Motorcraft oil filter (once I figure out which one it takes). My 2008 has 20,004 miles 😁I will be sure to check the dip stick! Luckily Costco has the 6 pack of Mobil 1 on sale!

Costco has the 6 pack of Mobil 1 on sale!

Walmart usually has a better price, per quart, on Mobil 1.
I only buy it in the 5-quart jugs, getting a lower price, per quart, than buying an extra quart to make six, for an oil change.

$28.38 for 6 quart box at Costco right now. Regular price is $38.38. Hard to beat that price for 5w20 Mobil 1 synthetic

The Motorcraft oil filter for a 2008 V-10 is FL820S; same as my 2003. You can look at Rock Auto for other choices, but sticking with the Ford-recommended filter is a good choice, in my experience.

That's a sale price, get it while you can.
Walmart's everyday price is $22.88 for five quarts of 5w-20 of Mobil 1.
