I looked into it with our accountant before we took delivery of our rig......determined the risks were too high for our taste

Very, VERY risky if you have a physical residence in a state other than Montana.

There is lots of discussion (and has been for the last 15-20 years) on RV boards regarding Montana LLCs.  The fines are very high if your state decides you owe them back taxes on the unit (and states are getting very aggressive with this).  A reputable Montana law firm will admit that you are on your own when this happens - they do not assist in disputing other states' claims.

More importantly, it's your money, but are you the legal owner - or Montana LLC?

This is a big deal with exotic sports cars too.  I see it as being a bit like the Amazon sales tax issue was a few years ago.  Eventually the states are going to decide to end what is probably a too good to be true loophole.  Some people will be made an example of in the process.

States with not much going on need revenue.
Montana with it's LLC tax advantage and South Dakota with it's
residency and RV full timer advantages make sense.
You just need to do your homework to see if it benefits your lifestyle.
Other states are jealous and are money grubbing their citizens who are savvy enough to find loopholes in their state laws.

Years ago, all the high end class A RV's were registered in Oregon. Now, it's almost impossible to do without lot's of hassles and red tape.

I've lived in Montana my entire life  and I've never heard of these ladies and their business. We do have a pretty good luxury tax on expensive vehicles and the like. I guess most of my stuff is worn out when I get it so luxury isn't in my vocabulary. I'd have to say using loopholes to get around your sales tax is pretty risky business. We in Montana are still lucky, no sales tax for now.

Yeah, looks like an iffy proposition at best and a scam at worst. I had never heard of this Montana thing so thought I would ask here. Thanks, think I’ll pass.

So what do ya’ll know about the Cayman Islands? 😁

It's popular with fulltime RVers who buy very expensive motorhomes.  Probably not a good idea for someone who is not a fulltimer.
