How do you celebrate Independence Day?
Just curious what folks on LDO do to celebrate the 4th of July?

Our community has a weekend-long celebration with plenty of events. I will be helping out with our Veteran’s group on various events and “manning” our booth.

We don’t have fireworks in our valley but they do in Tehachapi so we usually drive into town on the evening of the 4th to watch.

Happy 4th, everyone!

I celebrate by avoiding all the celebrations.
I gave up on holidays and observances many years ago.
To me, it's just another day.

When we were kids, we’d climb up on the roof of the house to view the fireworks downtown (about 1 1/2 miles away). Dad would not allow fireworks (fireman logic-go figure) so we made do with the roof top view.

As young adults, we were allowed to pilot my Dad’s 35’ Cabin Cruiser and anchor off the Queen Mary and get a fantastic view of what the city had to offer.

At one point we, as older adults with kids, would join a block party of sorts and pool our “Safe & Sane’s” and let the kids go at it.

Anymore it’s pretty simple. A few fireworks in the back yard and a barbecue. Couple of those infamous adult beverages. Later a good movie and something sweet as a treat.

Heading down to the Red Devil Stand really soon. 👹

Happy 4th

Sit down and re-read the Declaration of Independence.

Now I am retired and I generally stay off the roads over Independence Day.  But until 2013 I worked at DOJ in downtown DC.  It was a small shop that was staffed 24/7.  I often worked the night shift on the holiday. One night I got to go up on the roof. The pic is from 2008

I stay home and thank God I was born in this great country that ushered freedom and democracy into a world of monarchy and oppression.

We gather friends and family together for what is a peaceful mellow day.   We have military family that is very sensitive to loud banging noises so fireworks are out of the question.
I tend to be that guy that reminds folk what a great country we live in, where we were and where we still need to go to live up to the promise and dreams in our constitution.
