Side Panel Protection
The only place our LD seems to be vulnerable to gravel hits other than the windshield are the two (2) forward facing side panels next to the driver/passenger doors.  On our recent trip, we took two (2) more gravel hits which left small dimples in the panel.  So our solution to help protect these vulnerable panels was to install paint protection film by Stek at Hydrophobic Self Healing Paint Protection Film | STEK USA .   We used a local installer who did a fine job.

These side panels were more of a satin Oxford White vs the high gloss of the rest of the LD.   Heck if I know why but that's the way it was when we bought it.  This protection film is nearly invisible and makes the Oxford White look like the rest of the LD which I consider an added bonus to the protection.

If we decide to buy a new Lazy Daze,  we'd immediately install this type of film on both side panels and perhaps on the leading edge of the hood.  The rest of our good news is our LD to-do list is once again an empty index card.

Did you go all the way to the top? I find the leading edge of the running boards also take some hits.

We have this paint protection film the full length of each panel.  I could take a close-up picture but I doubt it would show much detail.

And a note to Greg (HiLola) ... I'll try to remember to do some kind of follow-up, but "remembering" and proof-reading are not my strong suit.  LOL

Hope this helps.

Ed,

Great move....this material is referred to as "clear bra" in car circles...and back in my "Audi days" I had it installed on a few of my cars (S6 and the RS6)....it works fantastic against the chipping that can happen on the front end of the cars....the one thing that evidentially happened was that the clear film began to "yellow"......and I did have it replaced on one of the cars.....note though that this was just over 10 years ago so the manufacturing technology may have improved with regard to the yellowing....

Love the idea!!!

Sounds like a good investment on a new(er) rig. I kinda like the “clear bra” name. 😉
