Skeeter Beater Screens for Cab Windows May 03, 2019, 09:00:43 pm On April 3 Susie (sdever2000) posted in a discussion on window covers:"I'm a fresh air lover though, so last spring i bought a set of Skeeter Beaters. They are mosquito netting sized to fit E-450 side windows & attach with magnets. They let the breeze in but people can't see in in daylight & they work beautifully at keeping those pesky flying critters out."I have been struggling with how to keep our old dog cool when we are parked as she insists on sleeping in the front passenger seat and gets very hot when the cab windows are closed even if all the other windows and vents are open. I saw Susie's posts and bought a set of Skeeter Beaters. They are wonderful! I can open the cab windows all the way or part way and with the screens there is air flow but no bugs. Our dog is very comfortable and it also gives us noticeable extra cooling and ventilation when we are inside. The magnets are very strong, the screen fits tight and even with a bit of a wind storm they stayed snug. Thanks for the great idea Susie!Stephany Smith 2 Likes

Re: Skeeter Beater Screens for Cab Windows Reply #4 – May 05, 2019, 03:01:30 pm While all the extra listed covers work for blocking the sun, don't forget the topic was Skeeter Beater Screens, none of the other covers are bug-tight. We have used a Sunguard cover for years, it does a good job of keeping the sun out while still providing a view, it does not keep the bugs out if the cab windows are open.Larry
Re: Skeeter Beater Screens for Cab Windows Reply #5 – May 06, 2019, 10:31:52 am We had some aluminum bug screens for a pleasure way van we had a few years ago. Fit in the door windows and sealed tight and were solid enough to be secure. Wish I could find them for our LD

The screens used several small magnets stitched into the frame to keep them in place on the outside of the RV. She said it was an easy project.

Re: Skeeter Beater Screens for Cab Windows Reply #9 – May 11, 2019, 02:46:25 am You're welcome, Stephany. I really love the Skeeter Beaters. They really work, are very quick & easy, & take virtually no storage space. They make them for many different window & door sizes & shapes. I thought I could make them easily & more cheaply but figured I'd never get around to it. Besides the company's employees are disabled folks. A feel-good solution to an extremely frustrating problem. And works better than a flyswatter!Susie
Re: Skeeter Beater Screens for Cab Windows Reply #10 – May 11, 2019, 11:54:41 am This is an intriguing idea. I often travel with a big dog and am reluctant to leave him in the truck when I am parked in the summer, but leaving all the windows open invites idiots to approach the truck and possibly have unexpected unpleasant interactions with the German Shepperd, who considers the truck to be his domain. Dogs are pretty smart. People, not so much.Skeeter beaters might be a good way to leave the windows wide open for ventilation for the dog and obscure the view to avoid people problems.
Re: Skeeter Beater Screens for Cab Windows Reply #11 – May 11, 2019, 01:39:54 pm "...to leave the windows wide open..."I'm not all that familiar with the 'Skeeter Beater' product but I'm thinking that they are independent of the window operation. In other words, you should be able to raise or lower the window to any position you desire, providing ventilation and security for the dog.
Re: Skeeter Beater Screens for Cab Windows Reply #12 – May 11, 2019, 01:42:34 pm Thanks again for the Skeeter Beater idea. My daughter is preparing to drive and camp across the country in her Subaru Forester, accompanied by her dog, and sleep in the car. I just bought a set for her rear windows for her birthday. We are going to make a cover for the windshield and driver compartment windows using magnets for some of the attachments. Thanks for the recommendation.Harold

Re: Skeeter Beater Screens for Cab Windows Reply #14 – May 11, 2019, 01:45:26 pm Raising and lowering the window is a benefit, but I'm not worried about security of the dog. I worry about the damage to the idiot's hand if they put it in the truck. Then, of course, there are lawyer fees... 2 Likes
