Dinners Table Tee Molding repair/replacement
So after 20 years my T molding on my dinner split at both corners out of nowhere. I have discussed this with the MS and they no longer stock the molding.

Theoretically I could buy 1 1/8 Tee Molding from Outwater for $114 bucks plus 30 shipping...this may end up matching but spending 150 bucks for 250 feet of molding when I only need 10 feet just seems like a dumb idea.

Obviously some people have glued the molding back in place...this would leave a gap but if I use a ratchet strap around the circumference of the table this could be a decent repair.

Does anyone have pictures of either repair? I really hate to spend 150 bucks but I like the idea of fixing things proper and if I glue the molding and it comes loose I’ll just end up paying the 150 down the road to fix it properly.

It’s truly surprising the molding can’t be sourced in smaller quantities elsewhere....

Hi:

I have made many repairs to wood  molding over the years.  A small area such as you have I would glue in place and

then purchase a high quality stain grade wood filler and then small can of color matching stain for any open space total cost maybe $20.00.

Would any of the these work, the t-molding comes in 3/4' and 13/16" width.

I think if it was mine, I would glue it and then maybe a couple small brown headed screws to hold everything in place. A little filler might be in order.

I repaired my table using 5 minute quick set Epoxy. Applied at the two minute mark and held in place with hand pressure it does not take long to set. Worked well enough!

As I sit here typing this post I am faced with a project completed years ago, my custom made Computer Desk/Book Shelf. Plywood was the foundation covered with a thin vinyl of wood grain pattern. The adhesive was contact cement, the surface sheets were cut oversize and finished with a file and sandpaper. It's been serving me for over 20 years without issue.   ;)

Going around the corner bunches up the 'T' rail, and stretches out the visible edge part. After a few years, the edge part pops apart where the tension was worst. I've replaced the molding around the white flip up 'TV' shelf (TK only) a few years ago. I notched about 15 degree 'pie' shaped cuts in the rail part to make a less tensioned curve. Like you I couldn't find anybody to sell any less than 250' rolls. My wife did find a seller who sold me the slightly over 1-1/8" wide molding in 20' lengths. About a month ago the molding on my vanity cracked.  Found a card for:      Plastic T-Molding: Woodgrain
They sell by the foot. The Natural Oak looks like what I need. My '99 has the same color woodgrain edging as your 2000. I also bought some WilsonArt (like Formica) high pressure laminate that is a perfect match for our flat surfaces. I ordered a 4'x8' piece (rolled up) from Home Depot, 18 years ago.     RonB
edit:  after insertion in the groove, I used white fast cure Gorilla glue. With glue dried a few days,  the width can be trimmed down flush with the counter surface.

Zane,

Our ‘15 dinette is right at 1” thick. With the factory molding it is 1 1/8” thick. It’s certanly utilitarian but could be improved upon for style and finish, but it serves its purpose.

I just wonder if LD could supply you with the current molding if it’s available.

Hi Kent. I hadn't noticed that LD had changed the way they edge their tables.
Sorry Larry, I noticed that you found that online place before me.That T-Molding.com I referenced has the woodgrain T-molding, but apparently not the thickness that Zane and I need. My countertop for the vanity is 1.12 inch exactly, as measured. There is just bare wood on the bottom, and 1/16" Formica (some brand of high pressure laminate anyway) on top, so the light, or dark brown T-molding, only available in 1 1/4", would fit, with a bit of trimming.
That Outwater place is $.60 a foot (in quantity), T-Molding is $.55, just for what you need. Dark brown I guess. Perhaps Outwater would send me some 1 1/8" brown wood grain for 'prototyping' purposes?    RonB

The mothership does not carry it sadly, the Outwater 1 1/8 is what they recommended.
