Carpet replacement
I know this topic have been beat to death.  But ...... on my to do list his summer is to replace the carpet.  My question is to those the have done the job.
1.   What did you use?
2.   Are you happy with the results?
3.  What would you do different if you had a redo?

I spent yesterday in my local Home Depot.   (one of my fav stores) .   There are way too many choices.   I have no idea were to begin.   My guess flooring for a RV has different requirements then flooring for a house.

Thank you in advance.

Mine had been professionally done with high quality berber right before I bought it so I got lucky. Way to much intricate cutting and fitting for me to ever attempt on my own. My hats off to anyone with the skill and patience to do this job.

Be ready to pull a few thousand staples, LD must buy them by the ton.
When installing flooring, making a paper template of the floor simplifies the cutting of the carpet or solid flooring.

I am doing all of the upholstery in my LD.  As part of this project I removed all of the carpet and vinyl.  It wasnt too bad,  took about 2 hours of working on the knees.  My wife and I didnt want any carpet in the coach, so we looked at a variety of flooring materials.  Initially I was going to install luxury vinyl plank, but after doing some research and listening to two of my flooring installers,  I decided against it.  Main reason was possibility of buckling problems due to heat in AZ.  I ended up by installing a good grade of Tarkett sheet vinyl.  My flooring installer preferred it as well.  It took him about 4 hours to do the install and there are no seams.  I am debating whether I will put in cove molding at the outside walls.   There are a couple of downsides to removing carpet.  First of all there are several bolt heads in the front of the coach that we had to cut around.  I would like to put some sort of cover over the heads, but havent decided how to do that.  The other issue is that the floor isnt perfectly flat in a couple of areas and you can feel it when it walk over those areas.

Nice job. Good looking and practical. A couple of questions: Where exactly were the bolt heads? In the unlevel areas, does it feel squishy or what? Are you putting coving down in non-wall areas? If not too personal, could you share what the project cost - vinyl and labor?

Chris,
There are two bolt heads that are flush with the floor.  One is under the dinette, the other is where the front barrel chair sits.  Both dont appear to be a problem, just want to put something over them to keep the vinyl from lifting in that area.  As to cost,  the vinyl is massive overkill because it only comes in 12 foot widths.  I bought 21 lineal feet and it was $2/sqft so ended up slightly over $500. Over course you end up with some sizeable offcuts, which I have put into my shed.  Might find a use for it someday.  The installer charged  $500 labor for himself and a helper.  I was getting quoted ridiculous prices to put in vinyl,  from $3500 - $5000.  I found that most vendors have a ridiculous pricing for working on RV's.

Thanks for this info. Carpet replacement is in the long term plan for my 30'er.
