Refrigerator gas solenoid valve October 24, 2018, 01:02:35 pm I'm looking into replacing this 23 year old solenoid from my RM2607 or seeing if I can clean it out.I suspect it's sticking.Problem is that both Domestic and ASCO say it's not available. No replacement. Will I be able to clean it inside with solvent?Anyone know of a compatible replacement?ON EDIT:That was simple. I cleaned it out. There was nothing obstructing this valve however.
Re: Refrigerator gas solenoid valve Reply #1 – October 24, 2018, 02:26:12 pm Saw your note here, judging from the looks of your valve, it will stick again. Could the current valve Dometic is using be retrofitted?
Re: Refrigerator gas solenoid valve Reply #2 – October 24, 2018, 04:21:51 pm Just a note - when a solenoid is old and misbehaves, it is often due to breakdown of the insulation of the coil winding. This thin 'magnet wire' has a really thin coating of a shellac-like material that will crack and peel with age. This causes shorts between coils and eventual loss of function, while current drawn increases.Steve 2 Likes

Re: Refrigerator gas solenoid valve Reply #4 – October 24, 2018, 10:57:59 pm I'll bet that a new replacement for today's frig would work. Voltage would be the same, watch the amp or watt draw and keep as close as possible. Will the coil come off, if it will maybe ASCO would have a replacement coil. I would be willing to bet the old valve will mess up again though. They always did for me....Jon.... 1 Likes
Re: Refrigerator gas solenoid valve Reply #5 – October 26, 2018, 04:14:39 pm UPDATEMy latest symptoms were not a propane delivery problem. It was an electrode problem. In all my work on this unit I failed to pay attention to the gap between the electrode and the burner. It was too close. It was sparking but the spark wasn't long enough to catch and ignite the propane on any constant basis.Live and learn. 2 Likes

Re: Refrigerator gas solenoid valve Reply #8 – October 27, 2018, 05:13:42 pm looks to me like he's happy with any temp he can get. Judging from the looks of the gas valve he should be too.
