Repairing broken Closet Knob July 09, 2018, 09:25:50 pm We have a 99 26 IB - the knob on the starboard mirrored hanging closet broke off.. and resisted all efforts to be repaired by glue or epoxy so I used a bit intended for tile and glass to drill a hole in the mirror and attached a generic brass know with a screw. Not sure if the tile bit was necessary (rather expensive at $12.00 and not in my tool box) but I found that recommendation on a DIY site and did not want to crack the mirror. Even with this special bit it was a very tough drilling and took several minutes to get through the mirror and into the wood.. Photo attached.. doesn't match the port side now but looks OK and is functional. ... 1 Likes

I don't think my dad ever came home empty-handed from an auction, & I've found multiples of multiples--still trying to ID what's in the barn (but I knew where to lay my hands on an oil-filter wrench when the neighbor was giving me a refresher on servicing the tractor earlier in the summer)...I've found a stainless steel rv sink that's in good shape (but I've read about the nightmares of trying to replace an LD sink) & five 5-gallon buckets full of various lengths of carriage bolts/nuts &...&...&...Actually, your repair looks better than mine--the fridge door swung back (obviously not level) & clipped the pantry handle just right. It broke off down into the mirrored acrylic backing piece on the door; I used a clear epoxy & it seems on there tight enough, but I can see the crack & divot on the base piece enough to be annoyed. I might someday order a replacement from the Mothership or Ed's link above, but don't know how I'd get the mirrored base off the mirrored door (sure can't pry the sucker off without risking 7 years bad luck & having to make another order from the Mothership ).Lynne 2 Likes

The hairdryer might be my first try (no sense in starting out with the heavy artillery if the dryer works; combustion in the LD makes me bit nervous...I think I've only lit the oven once )Steve, a heat gun is one thing I didn't find in Dad's stash; I've actually got my own (stripped up a basement-full of old vinyl tile once )Ths, guys.Lynne

Re: Repairing broken Closet Knob Reply #10 – August 28, 2018, 10:59:01 pm I know i'm a couple months late on this but I just fixed one of mine. Spray the base of the broken knob with glass cleaner and then just use a razer blade to cut under base. Don't pry but cut from each side and it'll come right off. Then clean up with alchol and stick the new one on.
