Re: Another toad idea. Reply #4 – August 19, 2018, 08:05:24 pm No windows - no thanks!Interesting idea overall but you have this massive tow vehicle and trailer coupled with a tiny car. Not logical or aesthetically pleasing by any measure.

He had an old Datsun 1600 or 2000 convertible that he modified to have the windshield hinged to fold down. He built a low garage bay in front of the rear wheels for indoor parking.

Re: Another toad idea. Reply #12 – August 20, 2018, 02:50:29 pm I have a buddy with a bobbed Freightliner. He pulled a 43 ft. DRV fifth wheel behind that. When his wife suddenly died, he had to do something with the Jeep Grand Cherokee that she drove. He decided to tow it behind the fifth wheel. I think he said it's overall length was around 92 feet. This was in rural Texas, the roads weren't that good, he had to go through a couple of small towns and maneuver all that around.Did that until he got to Austin where he has family. We went to Texas to pick it up and bring it to Oregon For fun, did the same thing for about 300 miles of Interstate until we got to NM and decided to unhook and I'd drive the Jeep. It was only a matter of time before the law caught up to us, We got some strange looks as people passed us, and passed us, and passed us.

When the Chargers moved from San Diego to Los Angeles last year, long-time quarterback Phillip Rivers had to contemplate between moving his wife and eight kids to L.A., or commuting from San Diego to practice and home games. He decided to make the 90-minute commute in a custom SUV made by Becker Automotive Design. He analyzes film during the commute. Heck, I wouldn't mind commuting in this!Becker Automotive Design // Luxury Transport Coaches // Sprinter Van and... 1 Likes

Re: Another toad idea. Reply #16 – August 21, 2018, 06:11:55 am I parked next to a rig like this (semi-tractor with side-load Smart Car, towing fifth-wheel) for an overnight in Sussex, New Brunswick this past July. I was interested, so struck up a conversation with the owner. I believe he bought his conversion from the company in Alberta for which "JCT" provided a link. The idea has merit. He paid $27,000 for his conversion. That is less than the cost for a diesel pickup truck of similar hauling capability. Fuel economy is not too bad, as the fifth-wheel is lighter than the average commercial load. And, he gets a toad to drive locally. If you know how to drive a semi, as he did, it is a "reasonable" option.Mark H
