Take delivery of our new 24 TK on July 26th
Ok,
I've been following this forum for just about a year.  The wife and I visited Todd and gang in April 2017 and put our name on the list.  Officially ordered our RV and made the deposit in November 2017.  I don't often, if ever, (heck this may be my first time) post on forums however I've gleaned a ton of valuable information over the past year from you all I thought it only right to jump in and tell you all how much the wife (Judy) and I (Dan) appreciate the enthusiasm and useful info folk have contributed to this forum.

That being said, we're big time campers (average a trip a month camping in our truck camper of tent camping).  We almost exclusively disperse camp or camp in remote and isolated FS or BLM campgrounds.  Over the past 10 years we've owned a Bigfoot slide-in camper that we hauled with our 1 ton 4x4.  We loved the Bigfoot (over 70 trips in 10 years) however as I'm sure many on this forum can attest to, it seemed to shrink as we've gotten older.  I also came to the realization that although I had a truck camper and 4x4 just about every place we took the Bigfoot, we could have squeezed in a 24' Class C (I think I only engage 4x4 low a few times over the years).

Of course we did our research as well and we have many friends with various RVs e.g. Class A, B, C, and fifth-wheels, travel trailers (we had an awesome vintage 62 Winnebago Canned Ham for a couple of years) and although there's no such thing as the perfect RV, we knew after visiting the factory that Lazy Daze was it (Love those Big Windows and quality build).  Although I'm getting up there in age (I'm still working for 8 plus years) however I still love and plan to continue tent camping/over-landing in remote regions of the West.  We have a Toyota FJ and explore isolated desert mountains often (just returned from a back country trip in the Inyo Mountains over the 4th of July holiday).  We plan on taking our new LD on road trips to some of our favorite places up and down the coast, the eastern sierras, Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia in the coming years.  I'm sure we'll see a few of you along the way and we'll be sure to wave.

Thanks again and hope to see you on the road!

Welcome to LDOF as an official poster, Dan. We are pleased you found your time spent here worthwhile and wish you Happy Trails in your new Lazy Daze.

A pick up report would be helpful to those waiting for their new LDs.

Great choice.  I'll be at the mothership July 19.  So I'll probably see your rig getting it's final touches.

Q:   How does a LD pickup differ from Christmas?
A:    The LD won't fit in your stocking on the mantle.

Congratulations, and see you down the road.
Cheers

I made the same transition as you from twenty years with a camper on a 4x4 pickup to a 24 ft LD. Only took one trip so far but it met or exceeded expectations. Still can get around nicely but have lots more room and comfort. Never had a generator before either which is nice oh and AC, that felt good in one particularly hot camp. I was holding off on selling the camper but I think the LD is going to work fine and I'm putting it on Craigslist next week. Lots of good memories and I hate to let it go but selling it will pay for a long trip we have planned this fall.
Discuss anything with anyone and disagree agreeably. Always be polite and respectful.

Thanks for the affirmation.  Yes, it was a tough decision, so many great memories of camping in the Bigfoot with our girls as they were growing up.  Sold the camper and truck (in that order, didn't want to get stuck with a camper in our driveway that we couldn't move if we had too) in order to cover the bulk of the cost of the new LD.  The Bigfoot sold very quickly and I received calls from across the US, ended up selling it to really nice guy who drove down to Orange County from Sacramento to pick it up.  Yes, look forward to more room!  With the truck camper we had AC however rarely used it (moved up in elevation or stayed on the coast in the summer).  We also used a 1000 watt Yamaha inverter/generator, not enough juice to run the AC however helpful to top off the battery.

See ya on the road,
Dan

Dan,

Took a look inside your TK on Thursday while I was at the factory.  Beautiful rig.  Amazing workmanship.  You're going to love it.  There was also a gorgeous 27' mid bath on the showroom floor waiting for it's lucky owner.  I am so jealous...

Thanks Bob! 5 days and counting!  I’ll post pics once ourbaby’s home. The wife and I are leaving on a 2week trip up north after a week of outfitting our new rig (
A few new things and a lot of hand me downs from our former truck camper.

So we picked up our rig on July 26th and left for a 10 day (900 mile) trip up 395 and the Eastern Sierras (White Mountains/Bristle Cone Pines as well) on August 5th.  Below are my initial observations and thoughts regarding our new escape vehicle:
PROs
1. I was immediately impressed with the drive and turning radius (smoother and tighter than my 1 ton truck and Bigfoot).
2. Very quiet on the road.  No rattles, squeaks, or vibrations.  That being said on uneven surfaces (campground dirt roads, driveway transitions, etc.. the chassis does a fair amount of squeaking, not unlike most RVs and trucks.
3. Love the 2 (total 200 watt) solar panels!!!  More energy than we needed (of course lots of sun in mid summer and at elevation).  Batteries never got below 13.2V and never fired up the generator.
4. Love that the stereo is wired to the house batteries and love the remote control.  Satellite radio all day (classic radio shows, classic rock, punk, 40's, 70's, jazz, soul, classic country, etc....
5. Love the shower (our Bigfoot had a wet bath).
6. Love the windows (major reason we went with LD)!  Brought the outdoors in while sipping coffee in the morning and dinning in the evening.
7. Got to sleep in 3 different beds!  First couple of nights the wife and I slept in the overhead bunk, switched to the king bed (our dog's favorite cause he could jump in with room to spare), and tried out the 2 twin configuration.

Cons
1. Rained on us a little bit while up in the White Mountains.  I was shocked to see how much water the roof held with the dams created by the roof seams.  LD assured us the roof is sealed and waterproof however I don't like for the roof to hold any water (My Bigfoot of course was clamshell fiberglass and quite domed, didn't hold a drop).  I felt like we had a wadding pool on our roof when I drove the rig off the leveling blocks  it looked like Yosemite falls pouring down.  Gonna get a good cover however I wish the roof was domed a little more almost seems convex.  Pooling water is never good.
2. Backup camera clarity is so so.  Mostly used while driving up or downhill (took it very easy and tried to keep it under 3K RPMs during the engine break-in period) since I was going quite slow and wanted to keep my eye on the hot rods on my tail and look for opportunities to pull over and let them pass.
3. Minor window screen separation (screen cut very close to bead and came out approximately 5").  Kind of issue to be expected in a new rig and easy fix.
4. Quite a bit of noise (expansion and contraction) around the back window area as the day heated up or cooled down.  Sounded a little like a house settling.  I think it's normal for the aluminum to make noise as it heats up and cools?

I'm sure I may be forgetting something or 2 or 3 however we had a great first trip (quite smokey when we first entered Owens Valley but each day got progressively clearer).  I post a few picks later as well as further observations and impressions.  Oh yeah, also saw a few LDs on the road as well as the camp-host at Forks Campground.

Joeroy,
that's not a wading pool.   It's Lake Newton, named after the LD Factory family.

Not at all disagreeing about water of LD roof.  Being  a victim more then I'd admit.    But <smile> living in the PNW (Pacific Northwest) we get a bit of rain now and again.  No leaks yet after 4 years.

BTW the best add-on in my not so humble opinion is Maxxair Vent Cover.  With the cover you can have the vents open with driving  or in the rain.

All LDs, old and new (AFAIK; it's a "design feature"!  ::) ), have a Lake Newton; I agree that it can be a PITA, particularly if, after washing the rig or being in a rain, one forgets to close the driver's side window when first moving the rig. Apparently, I am a slow learner; the cab door panel and I have been bathed in lake water several times over the years.  ;)

Good move, those should serve the purpose quite well for many years! However, had you gone one step further (Plus$$) you could have had the Maxxair MaxxFan assembly, (an improved version of the Fantastic) which has it's own integral rain cover which can be locked in any position between full open and closed and is quite a bit quieter than the Fantastic.   ;)   ::)

I had no idea either how much water Lake Newton  held and neither did my poor niece's 8yr old boy and husband as they got splashed watching us drive off the blocks getting ready to leave family reunion in Bonham Tx this past July

First time needed to run A/C for a few days plus had brief thunderstorm the day before. So not sure which was the source for all that water but hopefully will remember to clear the area before taking off next time after a rain or extended A/C use.
