Access to water heater tank - 89 TK?
I liked the idea some had mentioned in another thread about putting a thermometer on the hot water tank so you knew the temperature.

Some people used this to heat to just 100 degrees and then use only hot water for showers .
While some days I want a very hot shower (110+) and others a cool shower (80 or less), I like the idea of knowing the temperature vs our current heat the water for 0, 5, or 10 minutes.

I looked inside our water heater bin area and could not see any obvious way to get to the water heater.  See picture.
On the inside of the coach in that area is  our wave 3 heater (installed by a previously owner).

How do I get to the water heater tank?

Not easily, that's for sure! The water heater tank in my 2003 is located under the refrigerator, behind the power center and furnace duct hose. If the 1989 and the 2003 TKs have the same configuration, take out the drawer under the refrigerator; the styrofoam "block" you see is the insulation, and the water heater tank is inside. Doesn't that look like a lot of fun!?  :o

Or, while you have the refrigerator out turning it upside down to shake loose any "granules", maybe you can get at the water heater tank from above. Neither of these processes hold the slightest appeal for me, but YMMV.  ;)

Using Joan's access tip, stick the probe of the thermometer between the foam insulation and the tank. We used an aquarium thermometer, and the probe lead is quite long. You can set an alarm temperature, a feature we haven't used.

Note that the temperature will track the water temperature at a delayed rate, due to the thermal decoupling of the tank wall.

Joan,
I don’t think our water heater tank  is in the same place.
From entry door (behind passenger cab seat) working to back of coach
Is:
Cabinet with countertop - power center at floor level on inside, battery bin at same level behind that and opening to outside.  Storage bin below that accessed from outside but we can see it at the bottom of that from inside the power center space.

Wardrobe (double) comes next.  Wave 3 followed by furnace are below the wardrobe halves.  On outside corresponding to the wave 3 is the water heater outer picture I posted.  Nothing else on outside.

Next is fridge and it has a door (not drawer) underneath, outside is fridge bin corresponding to the bottom of the fridge.

Under the fridge door Storage area is carpeted - I might have seen an access panel at the back (I saw one somewhere iand this might be the one).

If the water tank is under the fridge it would mean there’s is about 4 feet between the tank and the outside bin where the water is heated.

Does this sound like your configuration?

It sounds easier to train a fish to swim inside the hot water pipe to the water heater and attach the thermometer inside the tank.  Anyone got a fish already trained?  I figure by the time I get one trained (decades though I have heard some fish are very smart) I won’t need this ability anymore.

No, your TK configuration sounds like it's reversed from mine, and has a few other "placement" variations, too. Anyway, the water heater tank should be located right below (or very close to) the outside access.

See if the wardrobe floor is velcroed down. If so, there is a finger hole to pull it up.

Steve good idea.  I also (silly me) forgot there were drawers below the wardrobe - we can pop those out and hopefully see lots more.

Joan thanks - I am guessing it is behind our wave 3. Worst case that is no longer working and on our todo list -so at that time we could get to things better.

Ok, that was way too easy.
I opened the drawer next to the power center location and the hot water tank was right there with an opening to put the thermometer under thread insulation - where a  pipe came out of insulation.

I wish all LD projects were so easy.
