Having said that I wouldn't hesitate to buy an LD knowing what I know now but I would have looked closer at the end caps. Mine seem to be in very good shape but really I just got lucky.

Your rig is more than old enough to benefit from a preemptive resealing of the caps and windows, to prevent future leakage problems.
A few hours and dollars spent now can pay great dividends in the future.

How old was your 85 when you sold it? I'm just curious because this seems to be an issue somewhere around the 20 year mark as the glue fails.

Sold it in 2004 so it was 19 years old at the time.  I don't know if the previous owner (forum member Rob Haerr) resealed them or not.

I think my bigger concern is the cracking that Kent just experienced on his 2015.  Is this the same issue or am I just confused (like normal)?

First thing I did is reseal the roof and windows and any seams that looked iffy.

In no way do I take your comment as a slam, it’s a comment.  I am ok with it.

Just to set the record straight.  We were on the list for a 2018 LD. We have a 2018 order package. I would have had a new LD in the next week or two.  But we had to cancel our order because my wife had knee surgery that did not go well.  I was rear ended two consecutive Fridays, totaling our toad vehicle and damaging our other vehicle.  I was not comfortable possibly losing $4,000 down payment as it was due at the time this was all occurring. I am flipping lucky to be alive! I am thankful to be alive!

You are correct I have analyzed this to death. But I am an engineer, that’s what I do!  I need a pause to refocus and clear my mind. I work full time and searching for a LD is frustrating because I cannot pickup and go to the west coast at a minutes notice. I believe LD is the best, that is why I keep searching.  Maybe the big guy has a special one just for me close to home!

Have a great day all!

Ron Sarzynski,
first of all, how is your wife's knee doing now?
Second, if you order a new one now,  how old, and how many miles will it have when you retire?  How many miles, States and Provinces afterwards?
As you say you're an engineer - you'd keep it tip-top condition and drive it forever.
If you are in the position that you can accept losing $50K value on something you will use for most of the rest of your life, put an order back in and don't worry about trying to catch a good used one if you don't have the time to do so.

Good luck, good health and good LD hunting.
just my NSHO,

The taxes here in California that are starting to fill our potholes is probably going to be repealed in November.  I guess we'd rather lose our dental fillings than pay to keep them at the pump.  ;)

I think it's worth pointing out that we ask our RV's to do incredible, almost unreasonable things.

Driving down the road is like a constant 60-70mph wind.  Add the bumping and twisting roads, starts and stops, and it's incredible that a 15 year old vehicle (my 2003) doesn't have many more problems than it does.

Yes, we put up with lake newton, foggy windows, end caps, and a handful of other annoyances, but I'm constantly amazed that our decade and a half rolling home still holds together after 75,000 often bumpy miles.

I ask far less of my house and spend much more time keeping it in decent shape.  Of course in the LD, someone else mows the lawn!
