Leak found on drivers side cab and also passenger side
Just bought a used LD and had tons of work done only to get it back and find a leak. Looks like it has been doing that a while due to rusty metal under seats and gas petal bracket etc. It was wetter on the drivers side floor than the passenger side. Read all the forums here and then headed off to find a place to work on the ford E450 2002 cab. Found a Water Doctor in Tacoma at Genius RV repair. They found the firewall leak under the cowl. Sealed it up. Thanks to everyone that posted their leak issue we could tell the techs to look at the firewall cowl, the wiper motor area or the windshield as the areas you all pointed out as a concern. They ran water on the cowl area first and found the leak. It wicked water across to the passenger side as well. So they dried it out sealed it and water tested it again. Thanks again to everyone that identified your leak problems. It gave us hope and I am sure shortened the labor costs. It still was expensive but it only took a couple of days. Thought we would post ours using a generic title for newbies like us. Now we have to get under there and sand and put rust inhibiting paint on brackets and the seat mechanisms. Any suggestions from all you more experienced folks on how to mitigate the rust please let us know. Lana W

We have not seen a leaking cowl posted here in a long time. I guess most of the leaks have been sealed by now.

After sanding or brushing away any loose rust, coat the remaining rusty metal with Navel Jelly. It breaks down the rust and forms a layer over it to retard future rusting. After it has dried, Naval Jelly can be painted.

Check the bottom of the your propane tank, many are rusted with flaking paint.
Scape the loose paint off and apply Naval jelly to the rust, in two coats.

Is this an issue inherent in certain model years?

Hi Larry, Research on the internet indicated the ford cab in several models for multiple years has had this problem, It re occurred in the 2002 cab. We think that is what is under our 2003 coach. Seems the weld area is prone to this leak in many other ford products. Lana W

Larry ,the rust is inside the cab all the metal brackets and the seat hardware. Naval Jelly might be tricky with the carpet in place but a good idea I forgot about that product. Used to use it when I was a teen under the direction of my Dad. Will mask off the carpet with plastic and go at it. Especially where the steering column goes into the floor and the bracket on the gas peddle. Thanks Lana We
