Coffee With a View March 16, 2018, 03:19:36 pm I can think of a few here on LDO that enjoy camping and coffee. Starbucks is making it easier to do both at the same time:First Starbucks in Yosemite ready to open in national park | The TribuneIt's about time for a fresh coffee thread, isn't it?
Re: Coffee With a View Reply #1 – March 16, 2018, 07:30:30 pm Well then what’s next? “Burger King”?I’m not sure that any Major Franchise has a place in a National Park. I can see it now...a giant Mickey Mouse greeting you as you pass through the Awhannee tunnel with a view of the new and improved Half Dome waiting to take you on a bobsled ride. Ok I’m teasing a little bit, but only just a little. I’m hoping it doesn’t actually say Starbucks above the barista’s heads. Or even on the cups. It just doesn’t seem right. Has this become a trend throughout the National Parks? When I get to the Valley next month, I’ll keep an eye out for that twin tailed mermaid. Very interesting.Kent 7 Likes
Re: Coffee With a View Reply #2 – March 17, 2018, 01:35:50 pm Mixed feelings here. I would rather see a Stumptown, or Blue Bottle, or, oh wait, those newish “third wave” boutique cafes are owned by mega international food conglomerates, as are most of the rest. OK, how about just a local shop? Oh wait, a Herculean task to navigate the “system” to be a concessionaire, when going up against the dedicated concessionaires in most of the park system. Who operate such high priced, low quality, mediocre service food and bev establishments. It’s a mess. The costs, hurdles and challenges of running a food concession in a national park are daunting in the extreme, given the proprietary feelings we all have about the parks. How about culinary schools and Food Network? Civilian Concessionaire Company? Anyway, I’ll be brewing up my own. 1 Likes
