Gray dump valve February 25, 2018, 05:24:23 pm I need to replace the gray dump valve and wasn't sure of the size. Does anyone know if the 06 30' IB has a 2" or 1 1/2" valve?Jim

Ours was leaking a bit and I replaced it with a 1 1/2" valve. The bolt holes lined up so I assumed it was correct. I used silicone grease on the blade and the gaskets as well. The new one continues to leak and I don't know why.I called LD last week and was told that they "think" it is a 2". I can't imagine that the holes would line up on both but don't know that for sure. Re: Gray dump valve Reply #6 – February 25, 2018, 06:12:03 pm Well... all my experience is with 3" valves for both tanks, but I will speculate a bit more. On a 3" valve, there are two rubber ring gaskets, one on the inside and one on the outside. They fit into grooves on the mounting surfaces. The thin edge goes toward the blade. When they are properly aligned and the bolts snugged up, the gaskets compress between the mounting surfaces and the blade, making a seal.Assuming the design is consistent for a 1 1/2" or a 2" valve, if the ring gaskets fit into the grooves on the mounting surface, they should make a seal. Thus, if you installed a 1 1/2" valve onto a mounting surface with a groove for a 2" valve, the gasket would almost certainly not fit in the groove. If the gasket fitted into the groove, you should be ok.That being said, if something marred the inner mounting surface - a few hairs, a small bit of waste material, a scratch by a tool, etc., or if either face of the inner gasket got damaged, the gasket won't seal well and a leak can develop. If the gasket shifted during installation, it definitely will leak, and most likely that gasket cannot be re-used. If the blade has a scratch on it that extends through the seals it will leak, but that is a new blade, so that is unlikely.So - what would I do? Dump the tank, pull the valve you just put in and check the seals and mounting surfaces carefully. Look for any nicks or distortion or accreted foreign matter. Carefully clean the inner mounting surface. Check the fit of the gasket into the inner mounting groove. If the fit is good, the surface clean and the gasket looks ok, apply a THIN film of vaseline to the gasket - not enough to show visible material, just enough to make the rubber shiny. Fit the inner gasket into the inner groove and the outer gasket into the outer groove, making sure the thin edge faces toward the blade. Carefully position the valve over the inner surface, then fit the outer surface onto the valve. Hold in place with one hand. Fit the bolts in with your second hand and start the nuts with your third hand... Tighten the 4 bolts just enough to make contact and hold the assembly together, then tighten the bolts a bit at a time, so the compression happens uniformly to avoid gasket slippage, movement or over-compression. Of course, if the gasket does not fit in the mounting surface groove, there is a size mismatch.Ken F in NM 1 Likes

Today when I went out to measure the dump valves I found that the optional foam insulation prevents one from measuring the diameter of either tube. The only way I could come up with a number was to use an outside caliper on the smaller (grey) of the two, at the downstream or outside end of the gate valve. It measured 2"! I'm not certain how or where one would take an accurate reading, even if it were new and in hand. As an aside, when the tip of my nose was within 3 inches of the output cap it certainly looked like the T80 Double LL mentioned in one of the older posts. What we have, at least on the 30' models are two tubes running to their individual gates and then coming together into a 'Y' to a single dump connection. If and when I have to deal with this issue I'll be headed for my RV Service Guru post haste! 1 Likes
