Banks Transcommand December 31, 2017, 02:59:54 pm The one on my 1995 E40D transmission started acting up. Harsh and erratic shifting.I used the bypass plug which takes the box offline and smooth shifting returned. The unit was installed 21 years ago.Should I consider replacing it out staying stock?Banks advertises that this unit really helps an E40D from overheating.Also...any recommendations on an aftermarket E40D transmission temperature gauge?

If you do a lot of mountain driving then, yes, I'd replace it. We happen to live in the eastern Sierra. No matter which direction we choose to travel, it's up hill. We had a Banks on our '94 26.5 MB and we have a Banks on our '06 26.5 RB. It provides much less stressful driving. Happy trails,Juli W. 1 Likes

We're going to focus on SW Colorado so lots of hills.I've heard both pros and cons of this product.I need to research it more.Thanks for your suggestion.
Re: Banks Transcommand Reply #3 – January 02, 2018, 11:43:11 am Prior to having John Woods rebuild my 2002 Ford 4R100, I had Banks install a trans command in combination with an exhaust brake (diesel truck). Being able to lock up the torque converter in each gear made the exhaust brake much more effective and it has been trouble free for many years.When John rebuilt the transmission, he mentioned that the trans command is a useful item and kept it on the new transmission. I still like it, especially in combination with the diesel exhaust brake and the bullet-proof JW transmission. As far as an accessory for a gas Lazy Daze, I don't see a down-side.HD 1 Likes

Some like to install a tee in the transmission's output line, before the cooler.Other like to located the sensor in the oil pan. The newer 4L100 transmission, has its Factory sensor located where it 'sees' the oil pan temperature. To get a similar reading, in the E4OD, locate the temperature sensor in the test port.
