Before I sell it, any reason to keep a Honda 2000 generator?
Before ordering my 2018 LD, I purchased a Honda 2000 generator for a trailer I was looking at, before I sell it, do any of you see a need to keep if for any reason, like all day battery charging or something?  Thanks

Clark,

Now that you will have a generator in your new LD, you may find little use for the Honda while traveling in the Lazy Daze.

That being said, there is often a need for generators at the sticks & bricks during extended blackouts if the LD will be stored away from your home.

Interestingly, I recently came across the Solar Generator that is capable of supplying electric power at home without the need to maintain a gas engine & supplying gas when everyone else is desperately seeking it.

Here is a YouTube video on the device. https://youtu.be/bE2V8Mva9Hc While not a cheap alternative to gas generators they are very intriguing in light of the recent topic of Extended Solar Power on LDO.

I also have a gas generator in my garage and doubt that I will ever use it again. It’s been sitting unloved for nearly 25 years. Must likely useless at this point.

Sell it.

I sold my construction generator very soon after buying our LD.  I've never regretted it.  I've run the fridge and septic pump off of the RV generator a few times.  You can store much more fuel in your RV fuel tank then you can in red cans.

Having the LD in your driveway is very nice.  It serves as a nice escape pod when bad weather or natural disasters loom.  We've used the RV oven a few times during holidays when our main oven is busy.  Guests sometimes sleep in the RV and they appreciate having a private space.

Are you referring to the septic pump at your home? If so how did you hook it up?

Well, I think that Honda would definitely be quieter than the Onan generator in your LD, which could be an occasional advantage if you're going to want generator power in an environment where you're close to others. Would that be worth the trouble of carrying the Honda? Probably not most of the time, but it could be useful on occasion.

There was a recent discussion of poor solar charging in Yosemite Valley for example. It's dark in those campgrounds. If you're there for a week you're probably going to have to charge your batteries in some other way. And I'd describe Yosemite Valley as a relatively generator free environment, with lots of tent campers, where people seem to make an extra effort to be quiet. That could be a trip where you might choose to bring the Honda and use that rather than the Onan.

It's also possible that the Honda will do a better job of battery charging if connected directly to your batteries rather than being plugged into the shore power receptacle and run through the LD power converter. But I'm not really an electrical expert so I'll leave that to others to explain.

The Honda 2000s built in battery charger is very small. It can be used to power a battery charger or converter.
I never see RVers carrying a separate generator if their RV is equipped with one. There is no need.
Carrying a portable generator raises the big question, where to carry it and the fuel can safely.
Gasoline leaking inside an LD or in it's storage bays would be a huge safety issue.

Before owning an LD with a generator, we had a 4000-watt home generator for emergency usage. It has barely been run since because of the easy access and use of the LD's generator.
Our LD is parked in the driveway.

While the Honda 2000 is a great little generator, it is too small to run the roof-top A/C.  Two Honda 2000s can be linked together to provide quiet 4000-watts.  Doing this require a special patch cord.
In my working days, I used this combination occasionally, for field use,  when I was working by myself and not able to pickup a heavy 3000-watt inverter-generator.

Yes.  In my case, it's a pump that only needs to run for a few minutes a day (depending on water usage).  An electrical cord runs from the pump inside the tank to a nearby electrical outlet inside a sealed box.  I open the box (a few screws), unplug the pump plug from that outlet, and plug it into an extension cord from the RV.

Mine's hardwired. Fabricating a pigtail that I could use a plug with would not be difficult I've wondered about this for a while in case of a power outage. Thanks for the info.

It all depends on your available storage, how often you plan to run it to keep the carb from plugging up (once a month works for me), and whatever other needs that it may satisfy.  We have one left over from our camper days.  I love it.  It is quiet and frugal with gasoline.

I have used it twice in the last year to power our refrigerator and freezer during power outages.  I spend days (weeks sometimes) at a time gunkholing around the islands off southern California and use the generator daily to charge the boat batteries (fog and clouds make the solar pretty inefficient). My son asks to borrow it to run a light at night to bring up squid.  When we boondock in the desert with my daughter and grandkids, it is useful for charging their camper batteries and running their obligatory AC appliances like the 1000W microwave and computer and audio toys, but not their air conditioner.

For us, the Honda EU2000 is a keeper, although we no longer take it on Lazy Daze trips.

Let me add that the little 12V DC charger in the EU2000 is too small to be useful.  I charge batteries with a 120V AC input marine battery smart charger, set the powershare function to 15A and charge the 4 6V golf cart AGM's and the 4D AGM in about 4 hours.  With a side by side refer/freezer that draws 100A/24hours, the generator is essential on foggy/cloudy days.  I have used the same charger to fully charge the camper batteries in about 45 minutes with the Honda.

I like the generator.
