Lug nut for chrome wheel cover
The lug nuts holding the chrome wheel cover have always been a struggle to tighten and I lost one on a recent trip. Ibought a new lug from Lazy Daze and the same poor connection followed. There are 2 per wheel cover and the nut is covered to match the other faux lugs on the wheel cover.  I relplaced 2 with ordinary 1 inch lugs I bought at OSH and it seemed a better connection as I engaged more threads. It was also a easier install.  I was considering replacing all eight although they will no longer be a perfect match. Any thoughts or have any of you had a similar experience?  Much thanks, Matt

Matt, thanks for this info. Do you have a part #, catalog photo or actual photo you could post?

We had a similar problem with our old Winnie, which was also attached to a Ford E450 chassis.  I finally got to the point where I just stop using the wheel covers.  In fact, I inquired about just having my wheels painted white or gray and not using any covers.  LD would not do that.  I still might do it at next purchase of tires.

The trick is to have the extender "balanced" so there is enough thread for the faux-nut to have enough grip.
A second trick is to remove and replace the wheel covers yourself when having any tire or brake work done.
You can order the nuts from KII, but I don't see a consumer contact number on their website anymore. Call anyway. They will stiff you on shipping. If you are in their area, Washington, drop by they will give you a few.

This is the link to the catalog page for Kaper ii wheel simulators and related products:

LED | Washington | Kaper II

As suggested, the best bet is to call, give them your wheel cover type and tell them the pieces you need; they are good at sending the right parts! I strongly suggest ordering extra lug extenders and acorn caps, and making a note of the numbers of each.

I don't recall that the shipping was particularly high (the parts are inexpensive), but I stocked up a while back and don't really remember.

Can’t remember what I did but needed one and ordered it from the M’ship. This must be 10 years ago. They sent me 2, no extra charge. Still have that extra just in case.

Good ol’ M’ship!!

See attached photo of new lugs.  Please know these have not been road tested yet and I do no consider myself very knowledgeale about this sort of thing.

I bought the lugs at Orchard Suppy Hardware for $4.99/for 2, and like I mentioned in the original post they seemed to provide a mush easier and better connection. I could be wrong though - hence the post. You will need to carry a 1 inch socket and extender in your LD tool kit. When I purchased new tires this year I do not feel good about how the tire guys may have treated those KII lugs!  Thanks, Matt

The OSH 'lugs' look nothing like the Kii lug extenders for the wheel lugs; do check pages 10, 11, and 13 in the Kaper catalog for the 'right stuff.'

There seems to be confusion about lugs on the steel wheels under the simulators and the two-per-wheel “simulator lug attachments” versus the rest of those simulators being for show only.
