Brake repair October 10, 2017, 04:05:22 pm My '02 LD has 55k miles. It's stored 8-9 months and used 3-4 months a year in MX. Got a flat (inner dually) last year, didn't know it and drove another 20 miles or so. Brakes started getting mushy, stopped for gas, and heavy brake smell and heat from left front brake area. Replaced all tires and noticed coach pulling slightly to left when braking. Brakes still mushy but drivable.While preparing to store for the season, checked brake fluid and it looked low. I think I might have seen a leak where I camp so have no idea how the fluid disappeared. No ABS light has come on.I plan to have brake service done when I return South including pulling wheels, lubing calipers, inspecting/replacing both hydraulic and flex brake hoses, wheel bearings repacked, etc.I want to bring brake hoses with me but can't find a size for the flex lines. When I search ''brake hoses'' online, metal hoses come up but can't find what I need for flex hoses.Another question: can I use the old brake connectors or do I need new ones?Thanks for any advice -- I've never had brake work before except by mechanics so I'm doing a crash course on what I need to know. Re: Brake repair Reply #4 – October 10, 2017, 06:45:40 pm you have at least 5 flex hoses.. the two fronts that go to the calipers(2078), the two rears at the calipers (2267, 2268), and the one off the rear axle up to the frame(2282). on my 99, the two rears at the calipers had the flex section integral with the axle hardlines, which is why they are so expensive from ford. the cheaper way, is to by the caliper flex lines aftermarket, which will have thraded adapters for hardlines, and buy generic hardlines to replace them.these numbers are general ford id's for the basic location, but show where they go.
