Outdoor Wifi Webcams
I've never bought a webcam before so don't know much about them. Looking for recommendations and considerations for cameras to hook up to my wifi network and to compliment the weather station I just added to Weather Underground.  Thanks!

I don't have recommendations on what to buy, but I do on what not to buy.  Stay away from anything from Foscam, or that uses Foscam image engine/processing internally.  They are known to freeze up on complex but seldom changing images, for instance trees, grass, flowers, and the like.  If the image is constantly-moving traffic, you're probably OK.  Foscam sells their own stuff, but is also used in a huge number of third-party makers and sellers.  Google it up, and hopefully you'll find a list.

There has also been recent news activity about un-disclosed backdoors and hard-coded admin passwords in a number of IoT products (internet of things) including security cameras. Unprotected, they can be a gateway to external meddling in your home network.

The other 'thing' I have with cameras won't apply to you in this use.  I'm not a fan of security-type footage constantly going to the web or "cloud" first, when there's no reason for anyone to see in your house, or at your front door all the time.  Cloud = potential hacking target, and a far greater one for bored hackers than your personal in-house server.  But, since you'll be putting this up on WU, it's not a thing where you have a reasonable expectation of privacy concerning the images.  So you're good to go on that.

There may be trail cams (for hunting and game management) that already address the needs of power and weather resistance.
