Viewing Grand Canyon 1941
I copied this from my National Parks Conservation magazine.  I just love the stones blocking the car from rolling into the canyon.

What a great shot!  First the content of the photo (I want to go to the glass walkway, but may be on my hands & knees...or belly)--this guy's just hangin' out without a net; second, whoever took the shot surely had nerves of steel like the subject.

Thx for sharing.

It would be interesting to know where this guy had traveled from. A man of means I'm sure.  Considering when the picture was taken, just getting there may have been quite a feat, never mind driving to the edge, chocking the tires, and sitting down for a look see.

Great, thought-provoking photo, thanks for posting it!

No way in #@*% I'd be sitting where that guy's sitting!  Just looking at the picture gives me the willies!   :o

Is that a bottle of Jack Daniels I see on the seat?  Now it makes more sense to me.

Glacier Point above Yosemite Valley has a popular overhang that has attracted a lot of attention over the decades.

A few years ago, I witnessed one "moron" err...visitor climb onto the now "forbidden" rock. I snapped a few pics of him in case his family wondered where he had gone to.

Here are some vintage pics of some of the other "daredevils" who have wondered a bit too close for my tastes. I'd be the guy crawling on his hands and knees and certainly not the person free diving off the edge.

From the car in the photo, it looks like the shot was taken many years earlier than 1941; I'd guess in the late teens or early 20s.

Me thinks that date should be 1914, not 1941!

Visit "OdPhotos.pdf" and see for yourselves.   8)

Well, sorry, I don't know how to attach a *.pdf file to this post. But, what someone sent me this am was a message which had an attachment OdPhotos.pdf and in viewing that file I found the pic of the guy and the car at Grand Canyon but the caption said 1914 and not 1941.

The 1914 date fits with the car, for sure!   ;)

I had to do a double take on that third photo.  Looked like they'd taken a baby carriage out there for a second...

With all this new information I'm guess the proof editor on my National Parks magazine made a small date error.      Even if its 1914 we humans have become of a different mind set.    <smile> maybe thats why we have a small overpopulation problem.  Seems in the past nature took care of some of the 'smart' problem in her on way.
