Do you put Bleach in Water Tank?
We have a filter for drinking water on our kitchen sink. Are we suppose to put Bleach in Water tank too for bacteria? Then do you flush or rinse it out? Our last LD we had a filter on the outside for the Water going inside tank.  Sandra

Sandra, this is my personal opinion.  It depends on how you use your rig.  If you are an occasional camper, sterilization is prudent.  If you mostly hook up to a shore water connection rather than using your pump, sterilization is prudent.  If you full-time and run all water through your pump, the fresh water tank is constantly being drained and refilled.  In my opinion, sterilization is not needed in that situation.

In any event, if you sterilize, you MUST drain and flush, then refill your system before using the water.  The bleach concentration used for sterilization is not something you want to drink, have on your skin, etc.

Purogene. It's expensive but worth it.

Have tried a number of things with zero long term success. Started using this and wow, the water remains in good order. Actually, I'm setting a record right now as the 1/3 tank of fresh in the rig has ended up sitting in there 6 weeks as I expected to head out a couple times but those plans were aborted. Heading out Saturday so went to the facility last Sunday and the water has ZERO stink and seems fresh as can be. I'll dump it out and add fresh in due course but I'm sold on this stuff.

Fully agree with Ken and Dave.

Here is our labor intensive method of taking our rig out of storage.

Purogene is the last step. One capful per tank.

I do the bleach routine described in the owners manual around twice a year when I leave the RV stored for an extended period of time.  The RV lives at our house, which makes things easier.  We live in the SE US where stuff grows over the summer.

If we're traveling for a while (up to 6 months) and regularly using water I don't worry about it.

We rarely use bleach in our water system. Every year or two I'll flush and sanitize it with bleach according to the LD manual, and we did that after returning from Baja, the only time we've sanitized when on the road, but otherwise we just keep it full from campground and municipal water sources.

We never hook up to city water, just use water from our tank. When traveling it is of course refilled often and thus the water is always fresh. When we return home I fill the tank and may leave it for months before our next trip.

We used an inline particulate filter outside when filling the tank (except for the rare fill site that makes it impossible), mostly to protect the pump from sand that might otherwise occasionally enter the system, and we have a spigot for drinking water at the kitchen sink, which uses a high grade filter.

We've never had a problem with "bad" water.
