... Now, off to the camera store to investigate filters. -- Jon
Thanks Ken!
After doing some more research it is obvious to me you'll need more than the 10 stop ND filter that was suggested in the video.  I priced a 77mm solar filter at B&H Photo.  The best I could find was $125 for a glass filter that was 16 stops.  But while doing this I saw more videos that talked about the process of taking pictures.  Not sure I would want to be messing with the camera all that much by taking a screw on filter off then two minutes later screw it back on.
More promising do it your self filter utilized a rubber PVC joiner tube that fit over the lens.  A snug fit not a tight fit.  The filter uses the same material the cardboard throw away glasses are made from.  Such a setup allows a easy way to remove filter when the eclipse goes total and then slide it back on. You need something easy to work as the eclipse progresses quickly.  It will be easy to mess up your tripod settings.   You don't want to miss the event messing with the camera.

Yup. I made my own. With filter film. Front loaded into my sun shroud. Twist on and off very quickly. Makes that part loads less frantic like dropping a filter in the dirt. Stays very well and portable.

RE: the price gouging reported (from actual lodging facilities to $100 for dry camping in a pasture...come to Missouri--no charge for my pasture, the tenant was fixing the solar-powered pump in the well, & I'll get him to move the cattle into the next pasture if they seem too interested in tasting anyone's LD...and the WW I Memorial in Kansas City is running some special exhibits for the centennial--plus Truman in Independence, General Pershing in Laclede, Walt Disney in Marceline, Mark Twain in Hannibal, Jesse James in Kearney, Walter Cronkite in St. Joseph, Eisenhower out in Abiliene (well, yeah, its Kansas), and more.

Y'all come...
