mattress April 26, 2017, 03:58:47 pm Has anyone replaced their 31' island bed foam with a new comfortable mattress? If so, where and what company? I have looked at Costco but dimensions are a little off. Maybe it is acceptable. Any thoughts?
Re: mattress Reply #1 – April 26, 2017, 04:22:16 pm Good luck with that Robin...As you are probably now aware RV mattresses are not what you would call 'standard'. It may be called a 'Queen' but it really is not. Personally I would not change mine, but then I like a very firm bed to begin with. I've been trying for ages to find a fitted sheet that will fit the mattress of my 30'IB to no avail. If anyone out there knows a source, please let me know.
Re: mattress Reply #2 – April 26, 2017, 09:39:12 pm I recently got a 3" gel memory foam topper at Costco. It was too wide for my Midbath's bunk, but that was no problem. I used a bread knife to cut it to size. I'm sleeping MUCH better on the new topper than I did on the old 2" topper.
Re: mattress Reply #3 – April 26, 2017, 10:05:26 pm Robin, we have replaced a mattress and made new ones, but not on a 31' IB, so maybe not the help you seek, but just in case you find it useful- we went to Quality Mattress Showroom & Manufacturing Plant Grants Pass on the advice of someone on this forum. They were very easy to deal with, had it cut and covered for us in one afternoon. It was good to be able to select the foam we wanted, the cover, and the exact size. On the ones we made for a new RV project, we bought the foam we liked, had it made into a composite of firm base with a soft top laminated on, then we will cover it ourselves. 2 Likes

Re: mattress Reply #5 – July 06, 2017, 08:16:01 pm Thanks for all your responses. I purchased a 4" eggcrate type of foam mattress from Target. Have not tried it yet but it has to be an improvement, I hope.
Re: mattress Reply #6 – July 06, 2017, 09:41:40 pm Having a RB, my DW and I set up the two couches as independent beds. She has a 3" memory foam topper and mine is 1 1/2". We love them so much that we added a 3" memory foam topper to our Sleep Number bed at the S&B's. We've tried egg crate foam pads before but they offer very little real support for our old backs. Memory foam comes in various densities and thicknesses and offer varying levels of comfort depending on your needs. For the LD, we tuck the extra width of the pad below the backrest. Top these pads with comfy throws and oversized pillows and we have our beds/couches ready 24/7 with little to no fuss. We wouldn't have it any other way.Kent

Re: mattress Reply #9 – July 09, 2017, 07:28:33 pm LDy Lulubelle's POs got lovely twin memory foam mattresses at Costco, then added a sort of shelf ( about 4" wide??) level with the original bed decking (they used shelf brackets underneath). They covered the *hump* of the across-the -back/through-from-side-to-side storage bay with coordinating carpet & replaced the original cabinet between the beds with a custom-sized table. The aisle between the beds is narrow, & I've sometimes gigged my knee on the outside corner of the *shelf* a few times, but the size works well for me & the 4-Legged Alarm. I'm not sure you'd have room to modify like that with the wardrobes/bedside shelves across the back, though.Lynne
