Oozing May 28, 2017, 12:01:56 am Lazy Breeze has this black stuff oozing for the joints and the bottom of the windows???
Re: Oozing Reply #1 – May 28, 2017, 08:57:25 am My '88 MB does that also. Glass to window frame is automotive window adheasive / sealant. Keeps glass in and water out. The frame to aluminum ooze I assume is putty tape, standard or butyl. Keeps water out. I use a razor scraper to remove from the viewing area of the glass. I use a plastic scraper or old credit card to remove putty tape from the aluminum.

Re: Oozing Reply #3 – May 28, 2017, 10:48:14 am I assume it will not turn into the blob, then again you never know what will happen with this black ooze. Thank you that was funny.

Re: Oozing Reply #6 – May 28, 2017, 08:38:12 pm Hmmmm. The last one looks like it is inside? A bit out of focus, but makes me think of 3M window sealant which is a good permanent sealer/adhesive, and is black. The other photos made me think of poorly applied, "gumballed" silicone that has begun to mold. This is not uncommon. There seems to be quite a bit of mold spots. If so, a real challenge to get off. I recommend starting with scrubbing the area with soap and water, and a brush. Once it is cleaned up you can see the sealant conditions. My mold was mostly green fuzzy moss. Some black on the roof.
Re: Oozing Reply #7 – May 28, 2017, 11:49:02 pm Paul,All are from '88 MB 5129. The first one is the door frame and looks like a putty tape the oozed through the paint. The second is of the right rear corner cap. Again looks like a putty tape oozing from under the paint. When I purchased it in November 2016 The roof had a lot of exposed hard amber sealant that has wrinkles and fissures. There is also the amber stuff applied by tube or gun down the roof edge caps. It cracked and oozed putty also. I filled the crack with dicor to make it through the SF Bay wet winter. I need to post a picture, maybe you know what it is. The last one is the window from the inside. IPhone is not the best for focus.Has Bree posted pictures? Bree started this topic. Thank you for the information. Scrubbing is in the plans. Just not enough days.
Re: Oozing Reply #8 – May 29, 2017, 02:43:20 am The amber is probably the original sealant. Mine was as you describe, yet amazingly to me, still somewhat pliable and doing its job. I took most of it off the roof seams with a multi tool putty knife and the portion that was in good shape I cleaned up. Covered all roof seams with Eternabond. I didn't want to use that anywhere else, so as I find suspicious sealing around end caps and windows I scrape the area out and re seal with 3M 5200 or Big Stretch or Loctite PL S40 polyurethane.
