The Companion Needs TLC
My original vision was to bring together scattered information of FAQ such as the use of Eternabond or how to make a cup coffee. I felt these topics repeatedly cluttered up the Yahoo board. That vision was achieved, but along the way, topics were added that cluttered up The Companion. Little things like labels for topics being in both upper and lower case and calling the same thing by two names make The Companion less friendly. And there are external links that are dead. Moral never link to something you do not control.

I have told myself for years I need to clean it up. It's time to face reality, maintenance has never been my thing.

When this forum was started there was some talk of doing some kind of magic on The Companion that would integrate it with this forum. I have no idea of what was being proposed. I have heard nothing more on the subject.

At the least, The Companion needs an Editor that relishes details to clean it up. Are you that person?

What about a new forum section that has a topic for each item?
Then maybe you could copy/paste/post each item?
It might need to be closed from new postings in order to keep it from getting cluttered.

Steve and I aren't fans of forums with lots and lots of sections.  It creates A LOT of clutter, IMHO, and over-complicates the forum design/layout.  It also requires an Admin to add a new section each time there's the need to add something to the "FAQ" - not very efficient operation.

There are a couple of other options, I think Steve had mentioned a "Wiki" to Chris.  We are in the process of implementing one on Foreforums and one here on LDO might be a good solution to preserving and organizing all the good work in The Companion.

Please let me (us) know when implementation is complete. Sounds like it might fit the bill for The Companion.

I can assist in editorial/streamlining, if needed, and as time permits.
It is a great resource.

Back when I had a BMW, I was a member of a forum that had a very good wiki.  I was never much of a BMW club guy (I just wanted to drive) but I loved the wiki on the site.  http://www.bimmerfest.com/wiki/ .
We would not have to follow the exact model because Lazy Daze has not produced so many different types of RV when compared to BMW and cars.  But something like this would be useful.  Or even the current companion format - which I like a bunch.  The difference is that in a wiki you don't comment on the link once it has been vetted.  Comments on the wiki subjects are done in the regular forum.    If comments were allowed you could never find the cure for what is bothering your RV.

I don't see any functional difference in the BMW Wiki and The Companion.
Comments were turned off on The Companion early on as commercial spam raised its head.

I have had my LD for 3 weeks, now, so I'm no guru. In fact, most of what I know was gleaned from this site and the Companion. All of that said, I can do basic editing, if that would be helpful.

Yes and I like it like that.  I was trying to propose what it could look like if it were to be brought here as a wiki.  I do not know what is possible and what is not possible on the site.  In a perfect world I wold like The Companion to look very much like it exists now.  It is very user friendly.  I know because I use it a bunch.    Sorry about not saying that well enough.
