Parts and accesories
Why is it that Lazy Daze nor Airstream have a parts and supply department? Oh sure you can purchase a few items but the list is small. There are so many vintage LD and Airstreams on the road and people restoring or maintaining them and very few resources to purchase replacement parts especially LD.
Don't these companies realize the money to be made if they had a parts department??

Seems to me, Mark, that LD has a pretty good supply of parts, at least the LD-specific parts they use when assembling the LD. What they don't supply are the Ford parts and parts for various mechanical add-ons that come from other manufacturers. But I'm sure you know this already. Maybe I'm not understanding the depth of your question???

Don't know about Airstream, but I am pretty sure that Lazy Daze doesn't give a rodent's rump about dedicating warehouse space, developing, staffing, and maintaining a "parts department" beyond the items that they already have on hand.

JMO, but I don't agree that a "parts department" is necessarily a money maker for a small, space-limited niche company, and LD is a small niche company with a limited market reach; they would have to buy product in volumes (beyond what they already do for their rig builds) not warranted by the amount of demand, and unsold product does not make money. (Additionally, trying to maintain an inventory of  OEM replacements for 60 years' worth of production would be beyond a nightmare!)

"Parts" of every description are available from hundreds of sources; when you or I or anyone else needs an item, large or otherwise, we have a lot of options for selection, pricing, and ordering. And, if a specific "part" is exclusive to LD, e.g., the aluminum roof or exterior paneling or a window, they either have it or can get it pretty quickly from a vendor.

JMHO; YMMV.  ;)

That kind of parts inventory would require either a computer for anyone younger that 50 to run the shop.  Not sure LD is ready to come into the electronic age.   Kind of like asking them to take a credit card.   Just kidding.
Actually I have been able to buy a lot of parts from them.  But my LD is a 2007.

For what's it worth, I've found nearly every part that I needed on-line.  And sometimes, the on-line part was as good as or better than OEM.    Take a look at the following post ... 2017 RV Parts & Accessories Catalog .  That free catalog is huge

In addition, there are these wonderful LD parts on a Factory peg board.

These displays can help with parts nomenclature when talkiā€¦ | Flickr

Hope some of this helps.
