Inspections before Purchasing? April 05, 2017, 01:57:28 pm As I mentioned below we have purchased a 2006 Lazy Daze in Arizona. It has 60,000 miles.. My husband is going to be driving it to Northern CA., which means across the Desert. The Owner insists he has had it maintained by the Ford Dealership and doesn't need to be inspected! The Owners have been cooperative and basically very nice but are older and have definite ideas about things. For example, the tires are from 2009 and they just don't understand why my husband is going to have new tires put on - on the way out of town! The rig has been covered and the tires have covers, plus there is no cracks in the tires. I found a Repair Shop in their town that will inspect the engine, hoses (which we are concerned with being in the Desert Heat) exhaust, brakes, and basically the outside of it and change the Oil for $200.00. this is our 4th Lazy Daze and never had an inspection- what do y'all think? Re: Inspections before Purchasing? Reply #1 – April 05, 2017, 02:14:26 pm Sandra,For the cost of the mechanical inspection, I don't see how you can go wrong. For the tires, 5-6 year old tires need to go. My father and my brother had blow outs on the same Fiver years apart from one another. My Dad had road service change the flat and headed down the road only to have another blowout down the road. Not sure if it was age related-either my Dads or the tires. It had been many years later that my brother bought my Dad's rig and had a blow out. Recently, pror to him moving the rig from his Oregon home to his new home in Colorado, I told him to check the DOT numbers. Too old for the road but in good visual appearance. He bought new tires needless to say.Just sayin'Kent
Re: Inspections before Purchasing? Reply #2 – April 05, 2017, 02:27:05 pm Thanks Kent- Yea putting new tires on is a no brainer for us and my husband will do it right after all paper work is done and heading out of town at Discount tires which is the same business as American Tires in California.. This Seller has strong feelings the tires are fine and no sense in arguing with him.
Re: Inspections before Purchasing? Reply #3 – April 05, 2017, 05:23:33 pm I remember many years back my father gave me his 1971 C-10 longbed pickup, which had been stored up on blocks and exposed to the elements in Ely, Nevada while he was working overseas. He and I were driving it back from Ely to San Diego where we promptly had two blowouts in the course of less than an hour. Doesn't work too well when you only have one spare! The worst part was we were on Nevada Highway 318. You know how they claim that Highway 50 is America's lonliest road? I'm here to tell you that it's really Highway 318!Yes, replace those tires! Still wish I had that truck . . .
Re: Inspections before Purchasing? Reply #4 – April 09, 2017, 04:12:21 pm Well, if things couldn't get crazier trying to buy a Lazy Daze. We have owned Lazy Daze's before and never had such problems with Owners. Now I politely emailed that we really want a Mechanical Check, and have set an appointment etc., plus we are paying for it. And we have yet to have a response- And the other issue is why the Lazy Daze words have been taken off the tire Cover in the back and it has been Painted over?? I asked if it has been in a wreck? Then I added we really need to have a response asap, please! No response yet and this is the second day... I think this sale is going south?

I think this sale is going south? At the least, it's not a favorable situation when a Seller stops communicating. On the other hand, it seems to me that as a potential Buyer, you're following a prudent strategy. Perhaps this older couple ran into some of those roadblocks that seem all too common during these Rust (Golden) Years! Time will tell.
Re: Inspections before Purchasing? Reply #6 – April 09, 2017, 05:56:38 pm Well, it's certainly possible that they have some reservations about an inspection, so won't respond. If so, you're probably better off. On the other hand, they may be with family, somewhere that doesn't have internet, or maybe just aren't as attentive to their email as many of us are these days. I'd give them at least until tomorrow afternoon to reply before concluding the worst.
Re: Inspections before Purchasing? Reply #7 – April 09, 2017, 06:30:41 pm I had dealings with the people you are buying it from they would never respond back and when they did they were very vague and I did notice the rear tire cover was missing the Lazy Daze logo I gave up on them.
Re: Inspections before Purchasing? Reply #8 – April 09, 2017, 07:50:53 pm Wow Camper 2831!!! So you tried working with these people too.. unbelievable! She did tell me that someone else was interested in it but was vague what happened. So did you give them $$$, and if so did you get it back? Did you ask for mechanical check also? Thanks so much I really appreciate your information because I just feel something is wrong with that Rig. Did you think there was something wrong with it also?Sandra
Re: Inspections before Purchasing? Reply #9 – April 10, 2017, 10:43:03 am I see the Craigslist ad says sale pending on it.
Re: Inspections before Purchasing? Reply #10 – April 10, 2017, 01:24:49 pm Yes, the deal is still going along. They emailed me late last night agreeing to take the LD to the Mechanic I found on Thursday. I think that this is something difficult for this man to do and I don't know why? But they are cooperating so we will see. Also they said they bought it with no Lazy Daze emblems on the back. We called the Factory this morning and got a price on them sending more to us to put on.
