Central Coast Wildflowers
Just returned from a trip to the Central Coast and took these photos today. These are from a well-known place for wildflowers called Shell Creek Road, off of Hwy 58 and about 40 minutes east of Santa Margarita. We were about 2 weeks late to catch the best blooms but were able to get a few photos there. My better half is the photographer.

And here are some from the Carrizo National Monument and Soda Lake area.

More info on the Carrizo National Mounument.  Here is a recent article in the L.A. Times:

What you need to know about the 'super bloom' at Carrizo Plain...

BTW, since this is BLM land there is free boondocking available and there are a couple of small campgrounds there.  The western part of Soda Lake Road is paved but the eastern part that runs towards Hwy 166 is not. The parts that are not are washboard so go slow if you take your LD.
Avoid the summer months as it gets quite warm out there!

Boondocking in Carrizo is restricted to car, tent, and/or horse camping; RVs are limited to KCL or Selby campgrounds.  :(

The photo of you standing in the field of yellow flowers is excellent!  Really provides contrast and perspective...I wouldn't have expected the flowers to be that tall.    :)

That is an optical illusion. My wife was kneeling in that photo!

I have lived on the Central Coast of California just 60 miles from Carrizo Plains.  We went there this past weekend and were surprised to see so many people out there. We live in to most beautiful place that has not been overcome with population.  So blessed to have moved here in the '70's from big city.  Love seeing your photos and comments.
