Raptor with snake
I took this photo at home base yesterday.  Red Tailed Hawk came out from low bushes carrying a snake in it's talons, before landing on the snag:

Nice. We are big fans of raptors AND of desert rattlesnakes (all but the Mohave Green).

Nice shot!

Speaking of rattlesnakes, on our trip to the Grand Canyon last month, we learned that there is a species of rattlesnake that is found ONLY in the Grand Canyon. It has adapted it's color to the pink walls of the canyon and is called the  . . .
wait for it . . . Grand Canyon Pink Rattlesnake . . . ta da!

:o Nice shot! Very smart hawk who wisely removed the business end of the snake before taking it home to the family!

Lunch!
(it tastes like chicken)

Our home is across the street from a 1500 acre wildlife refuge that's now a green oasis..
A couple days ago I watched two Red Tails do an aerial dance that went on for several minutes..
With so much food now available, the rodents are multiplying already, it's time for a new generation of hawks.

Thanks for all the kind comments.

I heard about Grand Canyon rattlesnake down on the river in the Canyon; like a Sky Island in that it's evolved its own species.  I wanted to see a California Condor but did that get that lucky.

Larry, perhaps you need some snakes also to help with those rodents...

Matt, you need to pay us a visit here in Bear Valley Springs. They are all over the place!

Matt,

Great shot!  If you are interested, you might consider submitting it to Outdoor California, the publication from California Department of Fish and Wildlife.  The magazine features some beautiful wildlife shots taken in California and has a broad audience of subscribers.

Thanks Harold.  This was photographed in AZ, but I'll certainly note that website for the future.

We have those too.
Their babies are so cute...as long as they stay across the street.
