Emergency Service While Traveling
We went to our local RV dealer and looked around.  It's a small dealership and they had ZERO Class C's to look at.  When we told them we were actually looking to buy an LD the owner laughed and said you might as well be looking for a chicken tooth in this area. People who own Class C's make it sound like getting them serviced on the road is WAY easier than the Class A's. But these guys were telling us a regular dealership doesn't like to because they take up more than one bay. A semi service garage wouldn't make enough money to service them. So which scenario is the truth? Not the alternative truth! Sorry, I couldn't resist. They had a huge inventory of fifth wheels and trailers, maybe that's why he was so negative about servicing them.

As you suspected, take an RV dealer's comments with a grain of salt.

I just had my oil changed at the Ford dealership yesterday. I usually take two oil and fuel filter changes on my annual 6 month trip.  I look for a place where I will be for a few days, with a Ford truck dealer nearby, and schedule I advance of arriving.  Easy.  Many regular Ford dealers won't do any work requiring a lift, since their bays aren't set up with the height and the capacity lift required.  But every Ford work truck tooling around with more than 10,000# on it needs a place to be serviced.  No big deal.

• I passed on a chance to have the Lazy Days serviced at Lazy Days RV in Tucson.  Though nice, with a good old reputation, and 36 bays that can handle it, their schedule and mine didn't mesh.
• My local mechanic of choice works on it in the open air.
• I have had also had work done on an emergency basis at a NAPA garage in Redding CA. The place that services wreckers and ambulances.
• Quick oil change places with a pit can also do oil changes, I just watch them like a hawk.
• Tires, brakes and wheel work at most any tire shop are no problem.

Plenty of places to work on them, and a lot of help here to locate specific services in specific locales. Other internet communities also are good resources.

My experience is the same as explained by Paul.  There are at least two (2) Ford dealerships in the western half of DFW that can provide service to our LD.  In addition, I've found several locally owned shops with excellent reputations that will work on the truck part of the LD to include brakes, engine, AC, etc.  So at the end of the day, I have no worries about help with the truck part of the home on wheels.

Paul, being that my 2004 FL and I are Redding residents, what is the name of the NAPA garage that you reference in your last post. Thanks.

Roger, It was Advanced Automotive
5756 Westside Rd Unit F
Ph 530-244-4423

The original owner was there, very friendly and garrulous. He sold the business to his son, hooray for multigenerational businesses, his son is more businesslike.

We stayed overnight on their lot as we were towed in at quitting time.

BTW, Rick and Barb, we use Coach Net for emergencies and were completely satisfied the one time we needed them.

Thanks Paul.  I have used, on two occasions now, a repair shop called All Wheel Auto Truck & RV Repair in Redding  with good results.  They're located at 18730 Old Oasis Rd, Redding CA.

We used them in May for a good bit of work on the LD and they did an excellent job. There doesn't seem to be much they can't do.
