Pre purchase inspection from private party this weekend, St Paul, MN
Any LDO owners who can assist a newbie with a pre purchase inspection for 2003 LD RB from a private party at Saint Paul, MN this weekend? Im willing to pay for your perspective, experience, time  and knowledge you ll be able to share with me.  Thank you

I am no RV expert...I looked at it, test drove it and bought my first Lazy Daze.  It's a 2003 LD RB, 27'  soon to post some pics.    Thanks for all your support and help.

So..., check out this previous message about posting pics:

"John, I don't know what camera or computer system you use, so my advice is generic. Start with reading the other posts here about that question, and some of the others too.

It sounds like your photos are still in your camera? If your photos are still in your camera, and it is not a smartphone, you will need to get the photos into your computer first. I can't remember how that works with Windows. With Apple you will need to put your SD card into the computer or plug the camera into the computer via a cable. Then your Photos or iPhoto application should open up and begin importing photos from the camera to the computer.

Once photos are in your computer, select the forum you want to post into, in your case probably Lazy Daze Renovations & Improvements the select the "New Topic" button on the upper right area of the screen. You will see the "Start New Topic" box open, where you begin typing your post . Scroll down below the area you type in, and there is a box below that is titled " Add files by dragging & dropping or selecting them" select on the words "selecting them" and follow the instructions.

This is one way. There are many ways to skin this cat, so for better help, please tell us more specifics about your situation?

When I have a large number of photos I put them into a Flickr album, then link to the album. Another process. "

FYI, Seller kept this in the garage for past couple of years....    Seller stated, "everything used to work when he used it (approx. 5 years ago)."   Since I couldn't get the generator started nor have good knowledge RV inspection, I just took a leap faith and bought my LD.    Positives were that, I like the floorplan, and inside did not have any odor.       Anyways, I would love to hear some honest, negative/ positive opinions of this rig based on this pictures here.   Thank you.

I responded to your other thread about the corner caps. 

Neglected to mention that it looks like the roof sealing is factory original. Start inspecting every inch of the seams for places where the sealant is separated from the roof. Also look for discoloration under the sealant. If you see any you will need to look carefully and critically for leaks everywhere in ceiling and walls inside.

At this point since I purchased it "as is", If there was a ever a leak.. i  would have to eat the cost of fixing it.  If there was leak, I assumed the wood is probably rotten and I would be able to smell the mold/ mildew.    But I must say I didn't smell anything.  Sad to say, but I bought this LD with my keen sense of smell and my confidence in this forum.  LOL  Hopefully it will all work. Thank you.

I agree that the roof seams need attention, either re-caulking or Eternabonding.  I'd also take a look at the date codes on all the tires (including the spare).  I doubt that the tires are original, but anything over about 5 years should be checked by a tire expert or preferably replaced.  The rear caps have the usual separation for a coach of that vintage.  Any idea of how many hours are on the generator (the meter is by the start switch inside the coach)?

Generator only had 83 hours.  But we werent' able to turn it on for whatever unknown reason.  THere was no propane to check the gas, no way to check if AC was working...  like i said, I took the Seller's word for it and just bought it in good faith and also knowing that I can get a good amount of support through this forum.   THe seller was the original owner, and I wished that he would have taken better care of it but it seems like it sat a portion of time in his driveway as well as indoor storage which is good.   I can only hope that there is no rotting/ molding wood behind the panels.   thank you for your feedback.  V/R - Dave

Dave, I like your adventurous spirit with your purchase...

When I purchased mine the Microquiet generator was also not running.  The original owner was upfront about it - it had low hours because they always used shore power. 

The generator had a fairly recent service history so I was hopeful it wasn't anything too serious.  I replaced the fuel filter and cleaned the carburetor.  This was enough to get it running, albeit roughly.  I isolated the fuel supply and ran a mixture of clean gas and Seafoam for about an hour.  The performance improved but it continued to surge.  I removed the solenoid below the carburetor and found this to be pretty gummed up with old fuel varnish.  I carefully cleaned and put it back together.  The generator runs great now, and I have a routine of exercising it to keep it that way.

Hopefully your generator issue is something as simple.  Matt

I have your adventurous spirit also.

I purchased a 1988 MB  56,000 miles and 56 hours on the generator, sight unseen taking the owners word about November.
I found the leaks and sealed them before the Snowmageddon(rain in SF Bay).  Replaced coach batteries(boiled to death) and started testing.
My generator was an Emerald  and surging.  I increased the sensitivity to limit surging and had to increase the engine speed to make the transfer switch close wile measuring with the volt meter.  The '88 Magnatek has a 20 second transfer delay that resets every time the generator rpm / voltage drops too low(105 VAC).  Then i started adjusting sensitivity and speed to maintain 132 to 108VAC no load to 15 amps respectively and consistantly. 

The '88 Penguin AC has a two minute Compressor start delay. In other words, it waits two minutes after turning on to produce cold air.

"Adventurous" ..?    Too early for such a compliment......  I think I am more of "dumba$$.  We will see once  I take it over to the factory and it proves to be in good condition for what  I paid for, only then I guess  I can be worthy of such compliment...lol   Thank you.
