Pretty good price!  :)  Do you know what city it is in?

I notice there is a four digit number next to the front window of the over cab on the drivers side - is this a production number?

It's probably a member number for one of the RV organizations like FMCA.  But it's not a LD production number.  Hope this helps.

Could it be a LD Caravan Club number? My old '85 had a number in the same area, "671" hence my old forum handle of ld671.

It has a SoCal Caravan Club number of  2791, so maybe someone from the Club knows the owner. I can't get to my membership list at the moment. The Club has had some members pass away recently, so this listing might be one of those. Or not. -- Jon

Interesting - thanks.  The owner wrote the ad and appears to be just retiring from RVing.

It may be just the photo, but the enlarged photo of the front end seems to show some discoloration to the red/burgundy on the hood.

Most likely the picture, red is hard to photograph in bright light.  Also the factory red is one of the colors that fades more than others with time.  This is normal and not much the owner can do.  I would not consider the fading a sign of "poor care" by the owner unless other issues happen to show up on inspection.

Well, as old Ed said when we bought our rig, red is the second worst color for fading, especially if stored outside in the SoCal sun. I wouldn't be put off by cosmetics. Our '06TK is in perfect operating order, but has it's own paint issue in one spot that faces the sun in storage. Oh, and the worst color for fading. Yup, ours. Grey. 😉  -- Jon

The hot Nebraska sun has faded our red Ruby greatly. I maintained with Finish First polish but the last couple years have been rough. My Ford guy insists he knows a guy who can restore her like new. I am incredulous.

I don't know them, but that CC number is listed as belonging to Barlow and Phyllis Thompson.

Yep,

Me too...charcoal and gray. I throughly love our choice of color and scheme. However, I do plan on a RV cover or shade and am setting aside the bucks to paint her when the time comes if necessary. 🤑

If I can avoid the fade, it's going to be one heck of a BBQ celebration. 🎉

The only things that can handle constant sun exposure are plants - and even they do poorly if situated in the wrong location and/or receive improper (too high/too low) watering.

Manufactured finishes (autos, RVs, airplanes, boats, etc) are not - nor were ever - meant for constant, consistent sun exposure. That's why they are supposed to be garaged. Due to oxidization on older auto finishes, environmental regs required new(er) cars to have applied clear coats. I'm sure everyone has seen the effects of even new(ish) cars with delaminated, peeling paint which have typically been parked outdoors.

It's a real credit to the quality of LD paint processes that they age better than practically any other item - including structures - that are exposed to constant sun. But the bottom line is, unless they are stored indoors or underneath a canopy (including side covers), they are going to get whacked.

This is the paradox facing the 'typical' LD owner: they want their RV to conform to their overall ordered lives, yet the reality of the environmental considerations defeat those impulses. It's expensive to house an RV indoors; it's a hassle to cover them with a tarp/cover. OTOH, at least they don't self-destruct in a matter of months like practically every other brand on the market.

We have a neighbor who bought a new TT 18 mos ago - he stores it in his side yard. The front can be seen from the street, and the decals/paint have been completely degraded by the sun. This is the reality of the majority of rec vehicles - the entire business is one of pushing hard to get product out the door.

A not too old, pristine, yet faded LD, is a rare find, especially for $22k. If you spend over $120k (including T&L out the door) for a new rig, you're gonna drop $60k min in deprecation in 5 years time. That's $12k/yr, or excess of the total value of this rig in a mere 24 mos.

RVs are expensive - price calculations should reflect what loss is going to be experienced over the time of ownership. If it beats hotels/air, or is highly utilized (eg full-timers) then the cost can be spread, but it's never going to appreciate like real estate.
