Thanks for your help. New owners
I wanted to say thank you to those that have taken the time to answer my questions over the past few months. I am happy to report that today we flew to MO to buy a new to us LD and our driving it back home this weekend.

I am sure I will have lots of questions in the months to come.

Melissa,

So the long search has ended and the journey begins. Congratulations!

I concur, take it easy making those turns to the right as you go around corners as the tail tends to swing outward toward the left hand lane.

Enjoy yourself.

Thanks everyone! Here are some photos. TThats us with the couple we bought it from. We parked at Walmart for our first night and thought we were using solar to run the fan and lights but ended up draining the battery. Needless to say we are on a learning curve...

The chassis battery.  Is newbies we didn't realize at the inverter needed to be on for us to be using our solar power. We do not have a generator.

Melissa,

Hopefully all the manuals were included with your NTY (new to you) LD. Especially any solar/charging/inverter documents.

Charge ahead and enjoy yourselves.

Hi Melissa, congratulation to you both on your 'new to you' Lazy Daze. The mid-bath is the floor plan we were going to buy, but the 23.5 fit in our driveway, and is a little easier to drive and park.
Solar panels only work in day light, and they only slowly charge your house batteries (two six volt deep cycle in series). The chassis battery is to start your engine, run the headlights, normal car functions, etc. That battery under the hood should not have run down; it is isolated from the house batteries when the engine is not running. When the engine is running it's alternator will charge both the chassis battery and the house batteries. The status panel for the solar charge controller, should have a voltage display to monitor your house battery voltage. Anything below about 13.5 while the sun is shining, shows that your house batteries need charging. There should be a light to indicate they are charging during the day. This voltage display will also indicate higher when you are plugged in to AC power, or when the engine is providing charging voltage. All of these charging sources are helping to charge your house batteries.   Hope this helps clear up the situation.  RonB

Congratulations, Melissa!  Here's to many happy trails.

I tried to post at the local McD's several days ago, but kept getting some wonky error message & it wouldn't even let me contact wherever the error message was coming from, but am at the Library today & I still wanted to send greetings & congrats, & give the info about Fresh Cab.

Curious--where did you find your baby in MO?  Had a note on the windshield a couple of years ago at the Pella (IA) Tulip festival from some folks in St. Louis, but we never crossed paths, & I saw there was a pin on the map for someone in south central MO, but again, we've never connected.

You said y'all flew to MO to pick up your baby--are you east or west of the Rockies/east or west of the Mississippi?

Perhaps you can put Ladeze on your agenda for next year...great group of uppitty gals who know LOTS of stuff, share generously of their experience, and have a great time.

By-the-by, speaking of stuff I've learned at Ladeze, here's a shout-out & thx to Jeanne Bold for her discussion of FreshCab Rodent Repellant at Ladeze in Moab :) --it comes in a sort of big teabag-like pouch (my Westlake's Ace Hardware gets it in boxes with four pouches) & I'm on my second year of the stuff:  even though she's a town kid, the 4-Legged Alarm goes all Terrier on me when we go to the farm (startled the daylights out of me last week  :o  when she flushed a very well-fed critter in the machine shed where LDy Lulubelle lives)--I wired a pouch under the hood close to the air breather, stashed a pouch in each outside compartment & about four in the interior...it may be overkill, but I've had NO visitors  :)  since I first used it last fall (also wired one pouch under the hood of the tractor).  A neighbor in town recently told me of problems with her minivan--the mechanic found the air intake completely stuffed with hickory nuts, so I told her about Fresh Cab & have since wired a pouch under the hood of my own minivan & F-250 farm truck since they currently live in the driveway at my house in town.  Happy winter (I've not yet winterized since I frequently stay in LDy Lulubelle out at the farm & we've only had one night down to 34, it was 80 a few days ago, & looking to be in the 70s through next week...ah, Missouri, where the weather is always a surprise--a neighbor once complained to my dad about "scraping 4 inches of "partly cloudy" [according to the Kansas City weatherman 90 miles away] off the driveway".

Again, congrats on your new-to-you baby.  ;D

Lynne,

I believe I learned about Fresh Cab from a thread you posted about a year ago. I've been using it ever since.

I use it all around the LD. I zip tie one under the hood and on the gen set cover. I have a bag in every bay and under the sink and under the dinette seats. Smells great to me but sends the little critters running.

I always keep several bags in their original box ready for dispersal every few months. eBay is my source and costs about $6.00 a pouch (4 pouches in a box).

Great stuff. Thanks.

We boondock a good bit and have found only a few places where rodents have been a problem. One is BLM land near Poncha Springs, CO and the other is Organ Pipe National Monument. I'm sure there are others. So far nothing we have tried has worked.

That said, the problem has been them getting in the engine compartment not the interior of the coach. Thankfully, they haven't damaged anything yet.

Would love to know if anyone has been parked in an area known for a rodent problem and used this stuff with any before and after experience.

Jim,

Disclaimer: I do not work for Fresh Cab nor do I profit from what I am about to say-really. 😇

YouTube has many video testimonials on Fresh Cab. Here's one: https://youtu.be/8o_Sj-kcCUc

Of course you could try the approach taken by the folks from The Long Long Honeymoon...  https://youtu.be/xB2GK2CpPBw

Check some of the other you tubes about Fresh Cab they are very interesting. Too bad the LoLoHo folks didn't know about it.

I know for a fact that something nibbled one of my Fresh Cab pouches I strapped under my hood some months ago and never got past a small portion of the corner which I simply tape back up with masking tape.

My cat, Sooty loves to bring me mice while out in the back yard. My LD sits on the concrete driveway in the front of the house. I have no indication that mice or any other varmint has come to visit the rig.

I am constantly searching for evidence and except for the "nibble", I have seen no droppings, chewed corners, paper, bedding or other such signs that they have been anywhere near my beloved Lazy Daze.

Hey, I wish all my insurance polices were this reasonable.

Just sayin'

Kent

After losing part of an air filter to a roof rat I fashioned a barrier of ΒΌ" mesh hardware cloth and sealed it mid-way of the air intake tube with RTV (silicone rubber). No troubles since!  :)
