Towing Packages.
Hi all,

It's time for us to renew our LD towing package. We're comparing the Coach-net and Good Sam packages. Are there any other ones out there? Which one would you purchase and why?

Thanks

I have stayed with Coach Net.  When first looking I considered Good Sam and AAA.  We look at the package as much for our cars as the RV.

At the time I first started looking I was unhappy with AAA for being slow and some other minor issues.  Several friends also had issues with them and that influenced in a small part contributed to me looking for another solution.

Some 30 or 40 years ago my dad used Good Sam and was happy with it - but that was a looooong time ago.

Then about the same time there was a lot of discussion about service providers on this forum and RV.net.  There were some rather remarkable (good) stories about CoachNet.

I have used Coach Net for a flat RV tire - it went flat in camp from a bad valve stem extender.   We have also used them several times for our cars.  I am impressed by the script the company uses when I called in. The first concern is the safety of the caller. Then there are the follow up calls.   We have newer cars and Tireman stems on the RV now so I have no stories less than a couple years old.

I believe all the better services will have the same pool of mechanics because service companies subscribe to receive the calls. If I was running such a company I would not subscribe to only one company.   So the difference for me was how the parent service works the problem getting someone to me when I'm in need, and how well they keep me in the loop as to when the repairman can be expected to arrive. I have been very happy with Coach Net and will continue to use them for now.

David, the primary reason that I bought CoachNet emergency road service (the basic Gold plan) several years ago was that I was (and still am) aware of considerably fewer service complaints about CoachNet than about GS, particularly on the issues of representatives who answer the phone not being well-trained, long wait times, and sending an appropriate "service vehicle" or tow truck to the breakdown site.

I have not had a claim, so I can't attest to the "real life" service quality of Coach Net. Both services use contracted providers, and in many cases, the providers are the same. (I believe that it would be very interesting to hear how the contracted tow companies view CoachNet and GS.)

Although I have been lucky not to have had to test the service quality - and I hope I never do - I would still go with CoachNet over GS.

Someone is bound to offer up AAA's "RV Plus" as a possibility; their service may work well for some (if coverage is offered at all in one's "home district"), but I'd be sure to read the contract very carefully for coverage areas, types of coverage, payment for services, and other potential "limitations".

Have had Coach-net and AAA. Both were good, but I have only used Coach-net. Service was fine. I do miss the maps though. Junk mail from Coach net is a small fraction of AAA.
