Re: Camp Safety - Revisited Reply #1 – August 11, 2016, 09:27:28 pm Bike cables have many uses. From locking up the 10 speed to securing lawn chairs and BBQ's. It never hurts to make things less desirable. Just another reason I still have my circa 1970 bike in tow. Still lock it up but far less desirable than a $3,000 mountain bike. Things have legs...locking them up helps to slow them down. Just sayin' Kent 1 Likes
Re: Camp Safety - Revisited Reply #2 – August 11, 2016, 11:44:38 pm The sad news is that if someone really wants something, they'll find a way to get it. As many of you know, I love to spend several months in the fall/winter in Puerto Penasco (a.k.a. Rocky Point) Mexico. I like to stay in a campground that has everything EXCEPT electricity. The beauty is that it's RIGHT ON THE BEACH of the Sea of Cortez. In the three years I've stayed there I've been relatively lucky. However, I've found that my local Harbor Freight has helped me to deter theft.I've found that a l.o.n.g. cable with a loop to attach a lock helps to keep my chairs and grill safe. Also, the solar security lights (can be temporarily attached to roof on all sides) with industrial strength Velcro are a major theft deterrent. Most thieves on the beach want something they can "steal and run." Strange, but most the the thefts involve running shoes left outside of rigs. I do leave my bike INSIDE of my CR-V. 3 Likes
