Awning with a missing leg July 06, 2016, 12:33:10 pm Hi all,I have a 92 MB I bought used 8 or so years ago. It still has the original 12 ft. Dometic case awning in working order but I lost the lower leg on one side a few years back. Does anyone have any leads on where I might look for a replacement? Is there such a thing as RV wrecking yards? I hate to spend the money on replacing the whole thing.Regards,Jerry

All kinds of parts are available, new, from Fiamma. As far as RV junk yards, regular 'recycling' yards for cars will have some RV's in them. I'd rather replace just the leg, a one person job, as opposed to replacing the whole awning, a two person job. Especially if the rest of it is still working. RonB

The leg on this is two pieces with a compression screw type thing that holds the lower leg onto the upper one that is attached to the awning. My son had used the RV and not secured the leg tightly up into the case. I was going down I-5 between Seattle and Portland at night, heard a banging and pulled over. The leg had flown off and I could not find it after a lot of looking in the dark :-(

Re: Awning with a missing leg Reply #5 – July 13, 2016, 02:23:08 am Todd, I watched the video in the link you provided, that awning looks similar to what we had on our last RV, though ours was longer than 12 ft and had no case, the arms, motor and bracing looked like that, and it was Dometic. My $0.02: a slight puff of wind would flap the awning, arms and all, and set the trailer to rocking, till a gust would flop tho whole thing up and over on top of the trailer. (Only needed to have this occur one time to learn the lesson) No posts to deploy (or run into), meant no anchor points other than the screws holding it to the side of the RV. We retracted it whenever we left it, and whenever winds were above a breath, so it served only as a sun shade on calm days. Again, it was 18' long as I recall, so a bigger sail. It did a good job dumping its own water in the rain, it was spring loaded so one end simply "collapsed" to dump water, then went back into position. Retracting it in the rain or at night was so cool! Press a button and listen to the hum while warm and dry inside. FF to today. We have the long Fiamma unit on the Lazy Daze, and we are well pleased with how sturdy it is. Like those legs! It is not as easy to deploy, or retract when it's blowing, for sure! Have to remember to dip an end to allow water runoff in the rain. We never leave it out when we leave, or at night. The bummer is that makes for a wet entry in the rain. Not a believer in automated critical systems without at least one backup layer, I would never leave a rain sensor equipped vent or wind sensor equipped awning deployed, always worrying about the "what if..." But then, that's just me.I like the SunSail for shade. But without a toad, we like to keep the LD easy to move, so it's not for us. And I am wary of any sail like apparatus attached to my precious wood frame by screws. There is a lot of force and flapping in a mild wind, I'm sure there is a formula to express that. Re: Awning with a missing leg Reply #7 – July 15, 2016, 06:49:08 pm We have ordered a replacement awning (after consultation withTodd at MS) directly from fiamma.If the brackets and holes line up, installation should be a breeze. Old awning is available for parts for anyone who wants it. But the old awning is 17 years old and may not have much in the way of salvageable parts. (Cost was 1,018 + 175 S/H).
