Re: Cheap gas? Reply #1 – July 08, 2016, 03:26:04 pm Good read, we tend to think of gasoline as a commodity. I always thought independents used the same gas as the big boys as identified in the article. We buy most of our gas at Costco, I wonder which supplier they use.

Re: Cheap gas? Reply #3 – July 08, 2016, 03:45:23 pm Been using the least expensive gasoline that I can find (without driving all over town) for over 50 years. Have never had an engine breakdown, failure, or any issues stemming from carbon deposits..... Guess I've just been lucky!Roger 1 Likes

Re: Cheap gas? Reply #5 – July 08, 2016, 04:00:35 pm Yikes! I've been using USA when fueling while at home as there's one a block from my storage facility and it has easy access and good pricing. Guess I'll either regularly add Techron or change to a less convenient station. No signs of problems yet, though, on my 2006 at 50k. --Jon 2 Likes
Re: Cheap gas? Reply #6 – July 08, 2016, 04:32:18 pm My experience with grocery store brands has been poor. Twice in the last 18 months I have had to drain tanks and filter out large amounts of water. I assume Walmart will always find a way to get suppliers to cut corners beyond anyone else. This report is not surprising. Especially in the boat or on the road when a breakdown is more challenging than at home I pay the extra 10 cents or so to get top tier gas. The app Gas Buddy labels the Top Tier stations along the route. A nice tool. 1 Likes

Re: Cheap gas? Reply #8 – July 09, 2016, 04:50:30 am I've been using Arco for years. I think it's the BP brand. When I was filling up last week I noticed Arco was 11cents cheaper then 76 across the street. JO

Re: Cheap gas? Reply #12 – July 09, 2016, 01:19:00 pm Federal Gasoline Regulations | Gasoline Standards | US EPAGas is gas is gas. The differences are based on local. The refineries formulate the gasoline based on the local use area. For instance gasoline brought on a mountaintop with snow on the ground is different than gasoline brought near the coast at sea level with temperatures in the 80's. But bottom line EPA regulates gasoline.
